Default Tired; not sleepy.   #1
So I'm at the point at night where I've officially reached the tired stage. AND I don't know why, but I don't want to go to bed yet. I doubt this is insomnia or anything serious, just a random feeling. I think it has to do with the ever-changing work schedule I happen to be stuck with because I want to get paid...

What kind of situations have caused this kind of feeling in you guys?

I haven't been that way in a while. Normally I am that way because I am anxious about things and usually resort to a massive amount of cleaning or XD, I am working on a project I am driven to get finished. I think at some point your brain reawakens so it bipasses sleep and you are just tired. It can be pretty dangerous to go with out sleep. I had a roommate that was an insomianic it was strange to watch him function. I also had another one that was depressed and would go through cycles, days with out sleep, high and bouncy others where she spent nearly a week in bed.

I'm very surprised at the amount of actual sleep we need to get, really. I found this website that talked about different sleep cycles we could use. There was one, in particular, that got me thinking of changing to, if work permitted.
It's called the Uberman cycle. Basically, 6 times a day, evenly spaced out over the course of 24 hours, you get roughly 20-30 minute "naps" which can actually add an extra, roughly 5 hrs to your whole day. I dunno if I could ever get used to that, because I do like to sleep, but it definitely sounds interesting.

I get that feeling a lot, in different ways, though. Sometimes I'll be physically tired, other days my body will want to stay up and do something, and usually I'm up for another hour, 2 hours after that.

I prefer my Rem sleep. I always have interesting dreams and when I can remember them they make for good stories. The nap thing would make me tired. It is what happens when I am anxious I think I am napping then I wind up waking up every five minutes instead of sleeping properly.

I think the way they talked about it *is trying to dig up the link now* is the body becomes accustomed to sleeping that little bit and makes REM sleep easier to get into for that person. As soon as they lay down for that "nap" they go into a REM sleep. So missing a single 20-30 minute nap would be similar to missing an entire night's sleep, I think...lol

I couldn't do it because I like having a semi-regular schedule. Currently, work is reaking havoc on my sleep schedule, so I get that tired feeling all the time...they're switching me from third to first back to third, over and over.

Ew Rotating shift. What kind of work do you do?

And I hate when my boss does that. I have told him that I do not like closing since it throws off my sleep because I usually have to open the next day when he does that. It makes me more tired when usually I am a morning person.

I'm an in-home caregiver.

lol I'm picking up shifts here and there, so technically I chose to do it, and I've given myself time in between to switch the schedules, but the havoc is more personal time and every other aspect of my life at the moment, which is what I was focusing on I think. lol

Ah, that is work that I do not think I could do. -clings to her retail job-

XD I am just a lazy bones who likes to have half the day to dick around and make art. There is no real excuse except I am usually in bed by midnight or 2 am at the latest. So I am naturally tuned to a 7 am wake up time 9 am at the latest. Usually by say 6 I am ready to wind down and just relax in my room. If I have to close that means not getting home again until 11 and usually a long staying up time to make up for the afternoon I have lost.

*chuckles* It depends on the client, dear. The one I have gives me a lot of downtime, which I usually spend posting on...well, now both forum sites I frequent and chatting with people. I swear, I'm glued to my laptop sometimes.

*nods* Part of why I like the client I work with now. When I do midnight shifts, I'm permitted to sleep, so long as I can wake up to any alarms or medical machine alarms and the like. I don't usually sleep, but I'm allowed to, within reason. For the day shifts, I literally spent about half the time I'm there just being there for if the client needs anything, and usually it's just to make food for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and what not.

Tired but not sleepy? That's practically every night for me, and usually I'm distracted by other things -- most likely videogames, unfortunately. Yesterday night was no exception. It's a really bad habit, yes, but I have a huge thing against falling behind in terms of levels compared to my friends (long story), sooo.

lol I really don't blame you. I love watching people play video games and I'm terrible at actually playing them, so it works out. (。◕ヮ◕)

I have an odd work schedule (as mentioned prior) so I get this feeling daily.

I would stream, but I'm not that hardcore of a player, and streaming makes my computer go nope XD

I have an odd work AND eating schedule, which means if I have dinner at 11, I can't sleep until at earliest 2am.

I understand exactly. I get hungry every 3-4 hours on regular days and I know if I eat, I can't sleep until at least 2 hours pass, minimum. And then there are those days where I forget to eat food because I'm doing something really intensely...
