Default Nightmaren and a Little Chocobo   #1
A large city, Lavi, rests in a valley, a river curling around its left side, and leading to a port city. Exports through that port have made it wealthy, and the wealth on its way to power.

His feet carried him carelessly into the city, his hair bound and hidden in a dark brown wig, his skin powdered darker, to a tan look, and then sealed to make sure that it wouldn't rub off on whatever he touched. As for his eyes, he had them shadowed, downcast, and blue-grey tinted glasses covered them, adding an unsaturated purpleish look to his irises.

The name he went by this month was a simple, common name, simply Jack. It was common enough that he could use the name with different disguises, where his real name and appearance might warrant attention. He was raised by some... annoying parents, who named him after a plant they loved. And being albino didn't help with the attention. So this month, he was Jack, the young merchant, who arrived through the port last morning.

He did, of course, have things to prove his guise. Two satchels of simple yet intricate nick-nacks to sell, and money of his own that was rationed to him as he took his job. His feet took him to the market, where a small sum of money purchased a place and a stall, and he placed the stone figures and wood carvings up, a charming smile crossing his face, leaning forward a bit and leaning on the stall.

isn't that funny
it was a fine day to be free of the constant nagging attention he received at home from mother and brushing back the short curls that slipped free from his braid and fell into his eyes he wandered up and down the newly opened stalls as he sought out one in particular. once he found it he gave a soft secret grin and looking up made his request to the smiling man that kept it

(you can pick if you are the smiling man or if this stall is across from yours. if he is looking for you then the man will point and mine will cross the alley to get to you if not you can just watch him get a small burlap bag sorry it is short)

He watched the man make his way through the market, searching. He seemed to light up when he saw the stall next to him, and his eyes peeked to the side of his glasses to watch them, without being too noticeable.

The burlap bag caught his interest like a mousehole may catch a cat's. Of course, what wasn't known often bugged people. "A fine day, eh, you too?" He asked from behind his counter, to those next to him. The shopkeeper gave a curt nod, though a faint smile went on his face.
"Business seems to be good enough." He replied simply, glancing to Jack. His eyes seemed to be faintly mocking, though concealed enough that it would have taken someone so interested in expressions and reactions.
"Aah, you see, I haven't gotten a single sale. Perhaps I should just start giving away these things with every purchase." He said, simply knocking at a case of jewels with a light chuckle. His eyes turned to the one with the bag, smiling brightly. "So, what's your name? I'm rather new in this city, see."

very nearly as soon as his prize was in hand another stall-keeper spoke up to get some of the coin he had gotten back and glancing over he saw a very tall man with dusky skin and dark hair standing behind a narrow stall full of stone charms and glass baubles of varying colors and purpose. pocketing the small bag he stepped over to the next stall and looked over the myriad of trinkets the man had for sale. his eye fell at once to a greenish-blue seaman's charm, "hello jack, my name is matthew and these all look to be from across the ocean, where were they made?" carefully he picked up the small carved fish-charm and looked it over as he waited for the other to reply

(matthew is the patron saint of money, he does not want yours to guess who he is since he could get in trouble for sneaking off)

"Matthew, then? A pleasure to meet you." He said, with a light voice, as he watched the other pick up the small charm. "That is something made in various sea ports, as an ancient tradition to try to keep the sailors safe. Not really used in booming ports like this often, though." He shrugged lightly, brows furrowing faintly.

"Hard to remember some of them. This;" He said, picking up a brass statue, of a lizard with spines and a lion's head and feet, and feathers of a bird as a mane. "This is something that was dug up in the ground. Probably some ancient god or something." He said, wiping off dirt from the bared fangs of the beast. "These are found from all over, some modern charms, some old and forgotten things."

(Sorry. I was dragged elsewhere for awhile, and didn't bring my laptop. v.vi)

his question went unanswered and he was quite certain the vendor did not know anything about the wares in question. silently, while giving the appearance of listening he took stock of the table and the man thought he did not like where his observations took him. this man was no street-seller and his wares were most likely stolen given his ignorance to their origins or possible origins and lack of care in selling to him in a way that would make him wish to buy anything there. once the other stopped speaking he offered a nod and backing away a step hastily beat a retreat. whomever this cad was he did not want to get in trouble with the guard for buying stolen merchandise should the thief's victim find them

(mine has been to market before, yours needed to try and sell him something instead of just making fun of him XD but no worries on the being stolen part, it does happen~)

(I'm sorry. I don't understand at all how he was made fun of.
He was told the charm was made in ports, and that the ancient statue was dug up somewhere nearby. And he just generalized since there were too many wares to simply rant off and waste the time explaining with. He answered the question quite well.
So how was the impression made that he knew nothing about his wares, and how was the insult made?)
