my rabbit was killed | #1 | |
Last night I had somewhat a traumatising experience, a dog came into our yard and started harassing our rabbits. We rushed out to see he'd pushed over the cage and pulled one of the rabbits out and killed her, he had her in his mouth, ran off, the owner lost control of his dog. It was a big dog, ran down the road a bit with Snowy but owner made him drop her before running off, we tried chasing after them but they were long gone.
So now I'm left to deal with this, I feel sad, angry and the police aren't able to do much except have it on file. My other rabbit Indy is fine but he's now living in my other halfs brothers place as they have a fenced yard. So just wanted to vent and discuss anyone gone through anything similar?

that's got to be hard, hmm we've had dogs here attack our rabbits as well, however, I've been lucky that the rabbits since we have so much junk in the yard where they could hide under where dogs couldn't get them or they were in a protective cage that the dogs dented in... my cousins like you had that happen and their rabbits weren't so lucky either... it makes it hard when the owner didn't take responsibility either... more likely would of been worried about their dog if they did though, that or something else they should of still stayed instead of run off however their dog might of got away from them again if they did... lucky one rabbit is still around... hope you feel better

thanks Lauv
feeling a little better today, we buried Snowy which was sad, I cried I'm a big softie when it comes to my animals. I still can't believe it happened though, the guy is such a coward, my other half said if he'd caught the dog he would have thumped it one... not sure if he actually would have but he was upset. My other halfs brother also has a rabbit so least Indy wont be alone he likes company thanks Glass Heart just wish people weren't so careless

I'd agree, I hope your rabbit can get along with his, other than that yeah rabbits do like knowing they aren't alone
I noticed that more when one of mine plenty of times, more so now than ever with one of my rabbits that we had to isolate, because whatever he got sick of could be passed to the other rabbits, he really enjoys attention though tries to follow and come to me still when he can

That's horrible. I'm sorry that happened to your rabbit. The owner shouldn't have run off. He should of apologized at the least. I hope your other rabbit gets along fine in its new home at your brothers place.

I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you. I really do hope you make it threw this. Losing a pet is hard enough, let alone losing one in.. such a hard manner.

I'm so sorry that happened to you!!! D: I know what it feels like losing a pet. I had a black lab dog and she got really old and couldn't hear and I didn't see her and I accidentally ran over her. I used to beat myself up everyday from that and I loved her to death and couldn't believe that happened. I'm sure your pets wouldn't want you sad so try not to think about it too much!

Something like this happened to my grams. She had two small dogs at one time, they where of the same liter. A young man that lived down the road lost control of his wolf mix dog and it was running lose when it ran by her, snatched one of the little dogs and snapped the lead. It tore the pup to little gory chunks like a morbid stuffed animal. It ended with the wolf mix being shot after it disemboweled a young child. ) :

My rabbit lives inside with me. o3o I only let him outside with supervision. I find with the winter weather here being retardedly harsh, a permanent outside home is too much for him. So he's happy in my room with me. That being said, no dogs have gotten him cause he's always supervised.
Sorry that happened to you though. D: It's always worse losing a pet untimely.

Aww, I'm so sorry about your rabbit!
Haha, I know this doesn't compare, but... My friend's bother ate my goldfish. I was really mad, but it wasn't that big of a deal, because fish aren't like cuddly like bunnies... most it was just gross. I might be getting a bunny soon, or a ferret.

It's easier for people to be careless, because they don't want to deal with the guilt. Reading this does bother me because I'm sick of people thinking that they're more important than these animals are. A rabbit was killed, and they don't even give a shit. It's nice to know that you care, even if it's painful for you. It's in a better place now.. Let all of that emotion out so you can move forward. And try not to kill the dog. >_<;
That's never happened to me. We've lost a few animals, but not by murder. It helps to think that they're still with us in spirit.. so I don't feel like I've lost 'em. It's still really depressing though..

Nothing Like that has happened to me, Although my mother does have two rabbits and two dogs. One of those dogs might do something like that If the rabbits ever got loose. It must be hard to deal with such things. I am currently looking after them at the moment. The rabbits have a pretty big cage that is unlikely to come apart unless there is a tornado or something...I hope you can overcome this eventually.
