I read Cirque Du Freak in middle and high school. I really liked them at that age, so if you like YA fiction, you should try them.

Also, Salem's Lot by Stephen King. Because Stephen King~.

My mom has these books by Kerrelyn Sparks about vampire. They all vampire somewhere in the title, like one has title that sounds like ''All I want for christmas is a vampire.''. I have no idea if they're any good, but she baught 5 of them, so they might be. I just looked on the web, and apparently they are Romance/Comedy/Thriller books O.O Apparently the most known is How to Marry a Millionaire Vampire because it keeps on comming up. According to goodreads.com she has 10 books out from that serie, called Vampire at stake (ah!).

I quite enjoyed the series Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, it's not based off of Bram Stoker's Dracula but mostly off of Russian folklore and set in modern times. I also lovelove Sunshine by Robin Mckindley, it is my all time favorite vampire novel.

I can't read a book where the predatory character sparkles.

well there is a local author by the name of Lynda Hillburn who is excellent. She has acouple of books one in particular called The Vampire Shrink about Kismet Knight, PhD. "She doesn't believe in the paranormal. She especially doesn't believe in vampires, but she begins to wise up when she is introduced to a handsome man named Devereux who claims to be 800 years old. Kismet doesn't buy his vampire story, but she also can't explain why she has such odd reactions and feelings when he is near. Then a client almost completely drained of blood staggers into her waiting room and two angry men force their way into her office, causing her to consider the possibility that she has run afoul of a vampire underworld. Enter FBI profiler Alan Stevens, who warns her that vampires are very real, and one is a murderer—a murderer who is after her." its a fantasty/urban paranormal kind of book. i love it since it takes place here in denver,co. lynda uses all kinds of landmarks around town. <3
most of her books can be found on amazon via e-book or just purchase the book itself.

SOUTHERN VAMPIRE SERIES is really good. Its what true blood is based off of. I just have to warn you its only loosely based on it. I read this a couple years ago and had so much fun.

...I read Interview with the Vampire when I was 12. which is weird to think about in retrospect XD Man, I loved it at the time, too. I think it's part of why I don't like most vampire books nowadays though; the early Vampire Chronicles books are so good and so well-written that they make a lot of other vampire books look like pure drivel.

I also worked as a proofreader for a gay erotica website for a while, and I had to read SO MANY crappy vampire stories that it really turned me off them...
