Well, I only went once, it was a while ago. But the main thing for heat I remember was actually Nevada...Stepping out of the airport in Las Vegas felt like getting really close to a fire. Really unpleasant.

In Arizona I was on a short rafting trip down the Grand Canyon, and that alternated between being soaked and cold (the Colorado river's water came out the bottom of Hoover Dam, so was super cold) thanks to rapids, then 5 minutes later completely dry and hot.
