Anybody watching this?
I originally started catching the endings to the episodes before the Mentalist each week, but by week three I was interested enough to give it a try, and I have to say, I'm really impressed. I always love moral ambiguity, and Mr. Reese is possibly one of the most morally-ambiguous characters I've ever encountered on television. The scene at the end of episode 4 was positively chilling. For anyone who hasn't seen it, the basic premise is that the government, after 9/11, built a massive supercomputer that could connect to every security camera, gps, cell-phone, computer, and wire-tap in the country and began developing software to sift through the information, looking for terrorist threats, but the guy who designed the software eventually became so horrified at the amount of "irrelevant" crimes that were being ignored, that he left the project, building himself a back door to access the "irrelevant" list, and now he has an ex-CIA agent who the government thinks is dead working to save people who the machine tags as in danger. Said CIA agent is a broken man who apparently has no conscience whatsoever and is, at best, only superficially interested in doing the right thing. I really love the way it's filmed, not just the muted colors, but the inventive angles using security feeds and such. The storylines are a lot more interesting than typical procedurals, too, since Reese isn't bound by any kind of regulations and will happily blackmail, assault, rob, extort, frame, and murder his way to solving a case. The next episode is on tomorrw, highly looking forward to it. Edit: Oh, it's on CBS at 9 p.m. Eastern. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers. | ||||

I think you can watch it on CBS.com, too, if you don't have cable/satellite. I tend to watch most of my shows online anyway since I have to *gasp* actually leave my room to do that on the tv. :p
