It sucks that it's a town like that, but are they really gonna believe her over you? I don't quite come from a small town, but the shops and some of the estates are a lot like that and from what i've experienced it's down to whether or not they trust/believe you more.

Her "town" is the state capital, so it's not exactly small. It's just a small community - everyone ends up knowing everyone else in some way, and the wheels are turned by all of the drama that everyone thrives on. There's really no stopping it once it starts, the most you can do is learn to live with the fact that some people are going to start shit by spreading slander. Going around trying to disprove it will only make it worse, people will just see you as being desperate. You can only shrug, say that it isn't true, and leave people to assume what they will - since that's what they're going to do whether you like it or not.
It's this kind of crap around here that keeps me inside in front of the computer all the time. ;;

Well it sounds like your friend doesn't understand her place in the problem. If she had originally continued to make payments this wouldn't have happened. I'd say if she was having money problems she should have contacted your father to work out a new payment system, but because she contacted you that she wanted to buy another car it seems she had the money to pay for the car your father sold her. ( I don't know if you relayed that message to your father that she wanted to know how much she still owed or not ). Your father could have handled the matter a bit better in my opinion instead of just going to her house and taking the car back without talking to her about continuing the payments.
Then again the core of this problem is your friend. She started the chain of events. Her mother has no right to be sending you and your family threatening messages, and she can and will be arrested for doing those things. On a side note: Legally your father can take the car back from them because its still his because your friend hadn't finished paying it off. So if that ever comes up don't worry about it. If you want to talk to your friend and try to fix things ( in my opinion you shouldn't ) then call her and try to talk to her calmly. If things get to heated just bluntly tell her its her fault for not paying off the debt she owed for the car and if she or anyone acting on her or her mothers behalf call you again and/or threaten you again you'll call the police for harassment. This isn't your fault so don't worry.

Way I see it, this is entirely yur "friend"'s fault, adn she isn't a friend to you.
To give you the harsh version: Your friend doesn't care about you, she cares about her car, and you were a way of getting to that car. Your dad did the right thing, you did nothing wrong, and your friend is over-reactive and childish, and her mother is an idiot. In less harsh terms: It sounds like your "friend" cares more about the car, and I'm sorry to hear that =/ You just tried to get in touch because you care about her and want to see her, and I am SO sorry this happened to you, that's sincere. Your father did the right thing, this will teach her a very valuable lesson. <--Trisphee Kensai--> ![]()
