A bill permitting same-sex marriage was passed by the New York state legislature on June 24, 2011. The bill was signed by Governer Andrew Cuomo shortly before midnight on the 24th, and the law will take effect 30 days later.

Senate approval was the final hurdle for the same-sex marriage legislation, which was approved last week by the Assembly. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed the measure at 11:55 p.m., and the law will go into effect in 30 days, meaning that same-sex couples could begin marrying in New York by late July.

I know, I'm from New York and when I saw that I was so happy and went "FINALLY! THANK YOU!!!" with the Hallelujah song in the mind playing. I was so excited that if I marry a girl I can get married in my home state :)
