So I have a serious question sorta kinda not really.... Let me give a lil bit of back story..

My hubby became friends with a couple of the guys at work, they are married so we finally have a few married couples our age to hang out with.

the one couple was having a baby but she was born around 28 weeks..I think...I know she was really early, barely 2 pounds. Her name is Brooklyn..she is now 2lb and 13ozs and just over a month old.

Well the other night at work on my lunch I was hanging out with another cashier and some of the stockers. Well I guess that some people have issues or want to start crap. The stockers had started on the subject of babies and Brooklyn's mom and dad(Misty and Jeff) were brought up. There was one coworker that didn't know who the Jeff was and the stocker that was talking about him had said "Ya he'll buy other peoples' babies stuff but won't buy his own and wanted his baby to be aborted..

I was floored and thrown back because I NEVER heard anything remotely close to that come from Jeff or Misty.. They said after she was born is when they found out what was going wrong with the pregnancy..

All I could say in the moment is that I know Jeff and Misty. But then I sent a text to my hubby and Misty about it, then my hubby sent a text to Jeff about it. I feel like I should have said more but I haven't been around Jeff and Misty as much as my hubby has.. Misty calls twice a day to check up on Brooklyn and visits all the freaking time.

Was I wrong for not saying much...? What would you have done?

For my opinion it's none of that guy's business to talk about someone that they have no idea who he is. So he was judging about someone that he has never met. I hate those type of peple

Like if I wasn't sitting in a truck bed..I would have stormed off.
Jeff told my hubby that he is going to managment about it. I told them I'd be there if they needed my statment or whatever.

My only question is that how would they handle as a company such as will they give out the name that put the finger on him for insult and false accusatioon

Like I don't know how they know each other because they work on 2 different shifts..

I'm not even sure how to respond to something like that. I mean, even if it is true, which it sounds like it's not...that's just not something you casually toss out there :/ I dunno what else to say Pocket ><

I'd be inclined to ignore it myself. They may just be talking trash in which case it's probably not worth it to start something that might get ugly. If you don't know them all that well it's probably enough that you mentioned it to your husband and if he mentioned it to the couple than I'd say it's up to them what they want to do. It's ultimately their business after all.

I would kindly ask them not to say those kinds of things then walk away. There really isn't a right way to respond to a situation like that. However, I think you handled it very well. And management should be informed because thats something that shouldn't be talked about.

I'm a very quiet person and I don't really talk a hole lot in public, but I would have raged about that! They have no right to say something like that not knowing them at all!

I really do dislike people like that. : C

I would have said something because gossip like that is both wrong and childish. Saying something makes the party they are talking about aware and so if any further issues occur, at least they know in advance that a situation like this is happening. Some people say it may cause drama but if both Misty and Jeff are truly mature people, they will not cause problems. In most cases if the situation gets worse, they can report the people for spreading gossip and get them in trouble. Gossip in the work place can be a true offense.

It's really none of that guy's business to talk about someone like that. If you think that it's out of character for that man to act that way, it is definitely just gossip/a rumour.

I more likely wouldn't of said much either, in a situation like that, one I wouldn't know what to say, other than go to the person it was about and ask them, but I've found things like rumors unless someone makes a big deal about them, they tend to disappear after a while
hopefully that one will too

It depends on the situation. I probably just would have gone straight to my supervisor in that case, though. I would not have said anything, I just would have gone above them.
