Good to know people care about NPC's in the newer games.
You might have to go to used game stores for some of the older games Foxie. I know I rarely see new copies anywhere. Never used spells in oblivion much besides those for utility purposes (open lock, mark, recall, water walking, water breathing, levitate, etc.) I do use things like fire bloom once and a while if I see a group of people that I'm going for. The tricky thing of course, is that you have to aim manually but it pretty much follows the mouse. Are mudcrabs especially nasty in Oblivion or am I just lucky in Morrowind? I never really had a problem with them, but them my fight style is to run back and forth all the time while swinging my sword or attacking things from on top of rocks so they don't usually get as many hits in.

Morrowind's easy to find online, you should be able to get it for under $20.00 is you check around, especially on Amazon. Not sure about Daggerfall and Arena, those might be tough to find, especially if you're looking for new over used.
And, Quiet, Mudcrabs are a joke in Oblivion, but the NPCs like to have random conversations about how they ran into a Mudcrab earlier today and barely escaped with their life. :p Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. I can kill a mudcrab with one punch in oblivion. And the Mudcrab joke is another easter egg, just like M'auq the Liar, who I seriously hope will be somewhere in the next game. Each one of M'auq's rumors are hillairous.

This is off subject but why is it that in morrewind you could find all the items they sold but in oblivion the only find the items in the shop is for you to activate the concel and going under the floorboard in a loucked chest? It's really anoying I mean it was thef hevain! Also I hate the flying creaters! I was constantly killed by them and one time I was at the travel lady and attaked I swung my sword at it but instead killed the travel lady!! It was annoying!

I know what you mean. They did it that way so that you couldn't steal powerful stuff early on... which made it so that stealing was practically worthless. Hopefully Skyrim will have a better balance in that regard.
And, let us hope that Cliff Racers don't make a triumphant return in Skyrim. I'll willingly forgo levitation if it means not having to deal with those avian bastards. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

Um, well, they flock to you. Like, it honestly seems like as soon as you emerge on the world map, they all spawn and start converging on your location. And they fly, so they dive-bomb out of the sky on you and just continually harass you whenever you're moving overland in Morrowind. There's no way to get rid of them short of mods.
Oh, and heaven help you if you try to fly somewhere. I think I had around 30 pecking at me at once, once. They're especially bad early in the game, when they're actually tough to kill and do a lot of damage, too. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Cliff racers are evil annoyances at best. Not sure I have appropriate words for them at worst.
Daggerfall might be DOS, I'd have to check so I'm not sure if it would run without an amulator. The old ones I know of are Daggerfall, Battlespire, and Redguard. At least one of those is an expansion since Morrowind is considered Elder Scrolls 3. Battlespire we could never get to work to our dismay. That might have been the explansion since new games seem to like to situate themselves along national lines, ie. "Daggerfall" (Imperial Capital), "Morrowind," "Skyrim," and "Oblivion" is sort of place named if one considers the plane. I guess I can go have a look. EDIT: Aha, got it. Arena (never heard of until now) is the first, Daggerfall is the second, and both Battlespire and Redguard are spinoffs that didn't appear to get further than each game (Elder Scrolls Legends and Elder Scrolls Adventures, respectively). And apparently, Daggerfall is available via Bethesda's Elder Scrolls website for download for free. Cool.

Just found one more small bit of news:
Unlike in Oblivion, cities will load as part of the world map, not as a separate cell. I believe this is the way it was in Morrowind. I like this, it makes the world feel slightly more immersive, I think. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

You mean the little city/location squares that popped up on the world map?

You didn't play Oblivion, so you might not know what I mean. All the major cities were separate environments. You had to go up to the gate an go through a load screen to enter and exit them. If you cheated and scaled the walls, they were empty of NPCs and none of the doors worked. This won't be the case in Skyrim.

That would suck! I like scaling walls. Works great in some cities where it's a pain in the neck to find the door. Can't remember if we were able to pull that off in Daggerfall though, since getting into the city before dark was rather important to the plot. Them vengeful ghosts are nasty.
Anyone here ever read the books in the game? In Daggerfall I found it enhanced aspects of the setting and so I did the same in Morrowind. Some of it is neat stuff, like the history of the races or of certain gods. I think at one point the bosmer and khajit were the same race until there was a split of some kind. I need to go do some re-reading on it. I've started stashing books that I find interesting in game to read later. Of course, learning stuff from said books was a nifty bonus. :D. Did that come up in Oblivion at all?

I never really got into the Elder Scrolls setting that much, beyond what comes across visually in the game. The only stuff I remember reading is the Mythic Dawn books and LaChance's notes (and other Dark Brotherhood stuff) just because I liked the characters. Maybe a few of the skill books, I don't know.
I did once have to listen to a very-heavily-inebriated, very-ex-friend read the entirety of The Lusty Argonian Maid out loud once... Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.
