Default So I think its becoming a problem..   #1
Back in high school I was told I had mild dyslexia. At the time I was like ya ok what ever because I didn't notice it at all. I just knew that I had trouble understanding what I was reading or read at times. Thus lack of me really enjoy books.

Fast forward 4 years and I start noticing it very great once and a while. Its now 6 years since I was told about my mild dyslexia and I'm really starting to notice it.

I want to say it happens when I start getting stressed but then there are times I'll be 100% calm and it will happen.

I let my managment know about it after getting an unpleasant remark from a customer.

I want to get help so it doesn't get to the point I can't to my job. I really enjoy my job and feel like at this point in my life this is where I need to be to begin the next stages of my life.

I have no idea where to start to look for help. I don't have insurance and it won't be avalible untill after the first of the year and even then I'm not sure how effective that will be.

Any advice?

Thanks so much littl3chocobo

I wouldn't see it as to much of a problem, my fiance has mild dyslexia and is still living a happy life.

If you feel like it is going to be a problem however, I would say go and see someone about it.

Well, depending on how bad it's getting you have a couple options. Often dyslexia can be exacerbated by mild vision issues as well. Have you had your vision checked or recently 'corrected'? If not, I'd recommend waiting for a local sale at one of the vision places to get them checked out. It may only be a mild correction, but it can make a biiiiiiig difference. Second, it can be an issue if you're staring at a computer screen all day. If you are ask for a glare reducing screen/privacy screen(they're the same thing), it will sometimes cut down on the 'flicker' that can cause problems.

Another thing you can do, but I've no idea where one does this besides on their college campus', is look at colored screens to go over what you read daily. My best friend has a red colored screen that goes over her computer or over her books to help prevent the words from 'swimming'. It makes a big difference since not everyone can read the basic black on white well.
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

I have a friend who is kind of going through the same thing. She said her words were starting to get all mixed up and she wasn't reading very well.

I have no idea what to do for dyslexia, sorry I can't help or give advice really.

I often mistype things and say one word when I'm thinking of another, though I have no idea if I have dyslexia. As for how to deal with it...when I was working I would always double check what I was doing and make sure I would give correct change back. I found that not overthinking it helped a lot. I hope you can deal with it Pocket, it can be scary sometimes :/

I have the same problem, only, its MUCH worse with numbers. When I was small, I had a teacher that royally screwed up my mathematical education. Since him, I've never really been able to work with numbers. Hence my fear of handling other peoples money, which, in turn, gives me VERY limited job options.

I know how it feels, though. I'll get my words mixed up, too. But I don't see it as that big of an issue. But if it gets to the point where theres severe miscommunication, I would definitely see to it that you go to see someone about it. If there are any free help groups in your area, I'd check 'em out. <3

I would maybe see your doctor and see what they can do about it. But, most people with mild or general dyslexia find ways to get through it. Hopefully you are able to as well.
