Default Whydoes this still bother me?!   #1
A few weeks ago the two fish and two snails in my little aquarium died. I buried them and set a little garden in their tank.
But since then I cant seem to get over it. I know they were fish but they were my fish. My fish that played up and begged for food even if I'd just fed them.

It's just every so often, when I look at their tank, or where they were put to rest, I'm almost brought to tears. I should be able to get over this. Gah.

Help anyone?

The Lord of Mushrooms
What everyone says about a death to a pet, just look at the positives things you had and there are lots of other fishies and snails around that are just like that

Pets always manage to worm their little ways into your heart, it's what makes them so lovable. You were obviously pretty attached to them if you're still feeling it. The garden you've set up should help with the pain of losing some very much loved pets. Stupid as it sounds, time heals all wounds, even those of the heart.

We're all mad here.
Grief shows itself in funny ways. I was worried once, because I felt like I cried more over my dog that died than my cousin when she passed away. That's not all that uncommon, and shouldn't be taken as a measure of judgement. Something that I learned in various circles that I've been in when it comes to dealing with things, is watch out for the word "should." It usually only makes things worse since by saying that you should be able to get over it, and you haven't, it then sounds like a personal failing. It may be best just to let it run it's course.

Grief, like Quiet Man Cometh said, is a very fickle thing. I've had guinea pigs since I was a kid and still have three. I should be used to losing a guinea pig, in fact most of my old friends used to ask me why I cried so much over a rodent that according to them, "Only would live a few months to a year." I would look at them at and ask "Then why do you get upset when a dog dies? How about a cat? Should you not get upset over them because they wont live as long as us?" That did two things: 1) It shut them up REALLY fast. 2) Showed them that ANY creature you love matters. Then I could go on and cry peacefully over the death of my little friends. And I STILL get upset when I think about the only boy I've ever had...and he died almost 2 years ago.

It's really okay to miss them, they were your friends.

All I can do is give you a HUGE hug, and tell you everything is going to be okay.

Trust me, I lost my Hermit crab Hermes [hardy har har] a few months ago, and I'm STILL not over it. Same with pretty much every other pet I've owned, that died. Especially my goldfish Zeddicus.. but that was because his death, Hermes' death, and my birds death were.. just really ... not copacetic. Anywho, I love you, Tai! And you know I'm here if you need me.

You shouldn't feel guilty for being sad. For me (who can't have my own flesh and blood children) my pets feel like my children and I would cry for a very VERY long time if I were to lose one. Pets, no matter what kind of animal, are family. Time will help but don't put a specific timeframe on your grief. -hugs- We're here for you too :3

Think of the good times, forget the bad. Also, maybe you can draw or something to remember them as well. :)
