Silent Scream
Default Coraline~   #1

Okay, so today I watched Coraline on HBO with my cousin.

The book was out last 2002 but the movie was out last 2009.

I first saw the book in a book fair our school held when I was in 5th grade. So when I heard there's a movie coming, I got so excited.
It's a stop motion animation which made me want to watch it more when it came out. I haven't read the book (still planning to) but my friend told me that Wybie was not in the book who was in the movie.

Has anyone of you here seen it? Because obviously I have XD but I still love the movie and I watch it every 5 months.

I absolutely love it. I'm interested to read the book, because Neil Gaiman is awesome in everything that he does. <3 I saw the movie when it first came out in 3D, and I don't think watching it over again will ever compare to that first experience. We need more movies like it.

I loved that movie but I've never been able to find the book on sale D: I really want to read it some day.

It sounds a little suckish that Wybie isn't in it though lol

Same here, the book was an all time favorite of little kids and until now I'm still looking for a copy of it.
That's why I really want to read the book to know what's the real story without wybie.

We're all mad here.
I thought it was good but it's not something I'd watch over and over again. I watched it in 3D at home with my sister. I liked it but I did find is was a little dark, in terms of colour. I'd would have prefered to have either more contrast or more light to see more in the picture. I liked the jumping mice and the mysterious, oddball atmosphere around the charactersn like the two old ladies and the mice man. Can't remember his proper name.

I thought the book was much, much better than the movie was.

The book is one of my favorite books. I don't think it translated very well to movie format at all.

They had to add characters, plot elements, etc. and it really stripped away from some of the aspects of the book that I found compelling - especially the "solitary" nature of the main character. Pretty much 90% of the book was Coraline feeling/being cut off from the rest of the world, whether it was because she actually was physically alone or because she felt like no one understood her. She didn't have a best friend (the addition of which in the movie actually angered me), no one in the house really paid attention to her (a running theme was that neighbors couldn't even get her name right) and it all added to the creepy atmosphere of the story when she finally found herself in a world that was all about her.

I don't think it should've been made into a movie. I suppose if you've never read the book, it's an enjoyable film, but for me - as a lover of the book - I thought it was lacking.

Haven't seen the movie, but loved the book. Some of the things that it looks like they added, I'm not so sure about. But I'm willing to try the movie out. Just like how from a canon point of view, the X-men movies were horrid, but taken alone they are wonderful movies.

I didn't read the book so honestly I can't tell if there are any differences.
I enjoyed the movie though because of the 'horror' effect.
It wasn't too scary but I do enjoy horror.

(。◕‿◕。) I saw it and loved it. It was a really cute movie and I
really didn't expect some of the things
that happened in it.

I read the book in elementary school, and I loved it. I enjoyed the movie, but I liked the book a lot better. when I read it, I imagined many neutral colors and creepiness and the like. the movie was...too colorful. it was colorful in a creepy way, but it just felt different than the book did for me.

I never read the book, but my friend said the book is a lot creepier when you read it and that they edited the movie to become more kid friendly so it isn't as creepy as it should have been.

I saw this without knowing there was a book, but I found out when I read the credits during the movie.

I thought it was really cute, while some parts were pretty creepy. I like creepy though so it didn't bug me too much.

On in to the future
I've never read the book. I didn't even know there was a book. I'm highly intrigued. The movie was odd, but not bad in my opinion. I can see how the literature standpoint could be much better.
