Best Song Openers | #1 | |

So I'm watching TV (no, really?) and on comes a Telus add with two cockatoos waving their crests around as the riff starts for AC/DC's "Thunderstruck." I love the add, but all because of the song (well, that and the black cockatoo which I also found out actually exists :)).
So I've gotta ask, regardless of the actual song, what songs strike you having the best supreme awseomeness of openings? (I think I've watched Jack Black movies too many times.)

If I understand what you're asking, then this song comes immediately to mind. I don't really like as a whole (singer doesn't do it for me), but I love the first ten seconds or so.
This song's opening really appeals to me, too. Very sorrowful.I actually like this entire song, though. :p And for something that isn't obscure heavy metal, I'll add that I've always liked Jethro Tull's Hunting Girl for its opening. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

I like the first 20 seconds of this song (everything else is the same but the opening sounds uber cool): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfOWz_RJBz8

Somehow, I forgot The Cry of Mankind . Another absolute favorite of mine.

Though not something I'd call iconic, I really like the beginning to Veteren of the Psychic wars (wow, that song has made it into three threads now. heh). I like the sort of techy, keyboard notes that come in before the drums, if those are drums. Not sure.

I find they tend to bother me a little bit because I keep waiting for vocals that don't come and I get impatient. I like the beginning to "Nemo" though and it's one of those that most recognizable to me.

I think the use of Mika's Grace Kelly was the most excited I ever was over a movie opening, or an opening in general.
I've been hearing a lot of Skrillex in commercials around here, and I'm pretty sure Deadmau5' Cthulhu Sleeps was used in a car commercial.

That annoys me a little bit. The Telus add with "Thunderstruck" wasn't that bad becasue it was going with the rock theme anyway, but "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was in a car commercial at one point, played casual on accoustic guitar. It was all wrong! You don't DO that to that song!
