"That's far more then I can remember," Chloe replied to his statement, giggling. "I can't remember anything really from before kindergarten, if even. So you've got hundreds of years a better memory then I do."
"I learned to cook originally to help my mom when she first got sick. Richard used to teach me here and there before that, but it was never as important to me. Then, I started cooking for mom. The more I did, the better I got. And the more I did, and the more she enjoyed it, the more I enjoyed it. I liked being able to do something that made her smile when life had gotten bad for her. And I started doing it at the bakery after that- and the same thing happened. The more I see people enjoying the food I make...The more it makes me want to cook even better and more often. I guess that's why I do it." She smiled at him easily. "You said you were turned a long time ago right? Do you remember what it was like? If it's alright for me to ask. I've always been curious... Does it hurt a lot? I know you said it was hard to accept. But do you feel alright with the fact it happened?"

He nodded, "Few things I do seem to have that effect on people. I don't know if you can..fell it, but quite a few humans notice something's not right with me. A sixth sense so to say. They know there's a predator about, and they go on the defensive." He shrugged, then gave her a quizzical look at her question.
"I'll be damned if I ever forgot that experience. And I don't mind you asking at all. It was the most god awful thing." He sighed, thinking back. "Most of the time, when a vampire is turned, they're Sire; the one who changed them, helps with the transition into their new lifestyle. Having a Sire is crucial to a new vampire's survival. Not to mention, a newly turned vampire could easily get out of control and cause great damage to both societies." He ran his fingers through his hair with a stressful sigh, "While my Sire did not abandon me, she wasn't of much help either. She did nothing to ease my transition. The initial change is the worst part. The body's chemical make-up gets..revamped is the simplest way to put it. And while the body's billions of cells alter their make-ups, one only feels pain. That's the best way I can put it. The first few days are very hard. It's not easy going from normal food, to drinking another's blood. If the physical pain doesn't destroy your mind, certainly the psychological will." He frowned slightly, not knowing how else to tell it to her. After a moment, he looked over to her, "I hope there doesn't come a situation where it might have to happen to you...but..I don't know if I could allow myself to let you die...if something bad were to happen."

"I've been good at figuring out little signs, but not too often. I'm pretty oblivious to it most of the time since I think of anyone as the same, whether human or otherwise. That's why I'm not too phased when someone says their a vampire or something. Still living, even if it means you'll live forever, you're still alive right? Just a little differently." She smiled to him simply, however frowned when he explained about the way his transformation had been painful and the problem with his Sire.
"I never heard about the Sire part, actually. Then again, I never thought to ask about the transformation process in the past. Sorry to hear yours wasn't very useful... But...You seem to have coped well since then, I'd say. You're pleasant, to say the least, and not all could have that said for them. You're very polite about your needs for blood as well." His last comment, however, had caused her slight confusion. "I don't see how something happening to me would have anything to do with you. You just don't like the idea of seeing people die, I'm guessing? I don't otherwise see how I have much to do with it."

He shrugged, "If you can call me decent and not feel like you're lying, then I must be doing something right in life." He chuckled, "People die every second of every day. It bothers me none. However, you are very well grounded. Not too many humans are. It would be a shame for the world to loose such a wonderful person."
He was silent for a second, then continued to elaborate. "While I may be civilized, it doesn't mean I am without my enemies. Even if I don't know you extremely well, I still consider you a friend, a good one at that. From this shot time with you, I can already tell you have many wonderful qualities about yourself. Either way, if you were to suddenly come into danger, I would obviously do whatever I could to protect you. While turning another is the last thing on my mind, there's still a chance I couldn't let a friend die due to my incompetence. It'd be more of a selfish act really, preserve my own pride."

"I don't know how I can be considered well grounded... All I do is cook all day. If I think I'm far from grounded. So, I try not to think." She chuckled a bit as well, pulling her knees to her chest as she thought a bit about what he was saying further.
"I can protect myself to some extent so you shouldn't have to worry. Being a track runner has it's advantages, since it means I'm good at running when danger comes...Though obviously if you were to be the pursuer, or someone with your speed, well...Then that'd be troublesome. But to this day there has never been a time I've had to deal with something like that. I think I'm my own worst enemy most of the time." Grinning to him, she moved to lay on her back, looking upward towards the sky with closed eyes, sniffing the air. "We all prefer to preserve our pride, you know."

[[Forgive my lame and late posting..x.x
Been sick/am sick]] "If someone like me was perusing you, you would definitely be at a disadvantage." He shrugged, closing his eyes. The cool breeze gently blew his hair away from his face and rattled the chain to his pocket watch. "I have quite the ego you know, and any damage to it is quite painful." He couldn't help but chuckle a bit.

((Don't worry too much about post timing. And the post is fine! I just hope you feel better soon D; ))
A laugh escaped her. "You say that as though you're the only one here with a need to protect their pride. I'm quite frustrated when people help me many times because my pride is very dear to me, I'll have you know." Grinning, she stood up just to point at a particular star she noticed. "Is it me or is that star brighter than the others? I remember when I was little I used to notice those things too. Mom said that making a wish on a star was good, but if you wish on the brightest star you can find, your wish is more likely to come true." She smiled to him before lowering her hand to put it with her other, lacing her fingers in between her chin. "Please grant this wish, star." Her words were soft as she said such. "Please let mister Vindore's pride stay in tact and well for as long as possible." She giggled, smiling over at him afterward. "Is it strange for me to make such a wish?"

"Do you really believe in wish making?" His jaw dropped slightly with a scoff, "Now my pride is definitely hurt. You making a wish to protect it." He chuckled slightly then shook his head, "Seems like a pretty decent wish to me...?"

"Your pride is a part of you though, isn't it? And if it's important to you, then it's important to protect it in order to keep you well." Chloe smiled simply, arms stretching out above her again without a thought, hands trying to reach to the point that her fingers were fully extended.
"I don't really believe in wish making all that much but... It always has felt nice to do so anyway, you know? It doesn't really make me assume it'll come true...But it does make me more hopeful that it's possible. I make wishes a lot just so that I stay hopeful." She lowered one hand, the other fully extended with her hand stretched as though she were trying to catch something. "When I was small I always thought the stars were lonely somehow, because they're so far away. We can see them, but we can't reach them... I eventually realized it was just making me lonely. I mean... If you look at them, even if they're far apart...Perhaps the way they shine brightly is a sign of happiness all their own." She laughed. "I don't know if stars can feel happy or not. Classes always say they're just a hunk of really hot rock or something. But...It'd be nice to think that they're happy as they glow too. When I was small, I used to wonder about things like that. I also used to wonder how to know if a vampire was happy or not. But... I know one way now. If they're smiling. Unless they're really good actors...Smiling is a good way to tell if someone's happy, right?"

He nodded, smiling slightly at her, "And you keep telling me that you don't feel you're grounded. Truth is Chloe, you're very intelligent, and mature for your age. It's rare to find humans like you, and its refreshing to actually know one."
After a moment, he stood, looking down at her with his hands in his pockets, "Vampires are incredible liars. After all, we live for a very extended period of time and have plenty of practice. I find that I myself am a fabulous liar when I need to be. Although, when it comes to things like happiness and such, I do find that it's hard for me." He shrugged a bit, looking up to the stars.

"They say it's bad for your health to lie about your happiness. Though... I don't find it affects me much. I've gotten so used to pretending to always be happy, especially at work so Richard won't make a fuss." A giggle escaped her, her eyes glued to the skyline. "I think I first learned how when mom got sick so I wouldn't worry her if something happened at school. It's the only thing I'm good at lying about, though..."
Looking over to him, she smiled slightly, a bit more wholesome than she normally did. "But I can't say I'm lying now by saying this is fun. TO be honest... I've never been good at talking with others for a long time, especially without moving around a whole lot. Usually I only talk during track or work. This is new to me...But...It's nice somehow. You know?"

[[Brain fart+writer's block+sickness=bad post D:]]
He nodded, "It's a nice change of pace. Sometimes that's all we really need." With a silent sigh, he pulled out his pocket watch and flipped it open. 3am. In a few hours the sun would rise. It would be a spectacular sight from here, but, what could they possibly do for the next two and a half hours or so until then?

((No, brain fart+writers block+sickness=fine post but feeling lousy, don't it? D: Feel better!))
"What time is it anyhow?" Chloe looked at the man curiously, having noticed the pocket watch. "It seems to be dawn already... I might just have to take the day off tomorrow. Richard'll probably be thrilled." She smiled, giggling a bit as she recalled the last time she'd taken a day off- Richard had literally been jumping up and down, ecstatic since she always worked too hard. "I know it's a fairly peculiar request, most likely, but can we stay out a little longer? It'd be nice to see the sunrise. They say that the sunrise in this town is always wonderful, but I usually never get to see it...Wait, it won't hurt you, will it? I don't know how the sun actually affects vampires still..."

[[Something like that ;D]]
Nicolai threw his head back in laughter for a few seconds before quieting down, "My dear, if you keep working this hard all the time you'll end up killing yourself. Very taxing on the body. As for the time, it's about quarter after 3. It seems much later than that though..." He had to hold back another bought of laughter as she mentioned the sun. "The sunrise from here is just stunning, if I do say so myself. The sun doesn't really bother us much, unless we have extended hours of exposure. After that, we occasionally start to feel weakened...like when an introvertive human spends time in a crowded area. Some of us that are incredibly old eventually develop a slight hyper-sensitivity to it, but then we just get extra crabby." He winked with a soft chuckle, "But you have nothing to worry about, I will be perfectly alright."

"That's why I asked rather than assumed this time," Chloe replied with a simple smile. "And I work this hard because it's fun. It doesn't feel like work at all. I absolutely love cooking and serving food to people...So that's why I try to do it as much as I can. 'Cause I enjoy it. That, and it keeps me out of my own head. That is a dangerous place, I'll have you know." She giggled a bit, grinning to him slightly.

[[Im pondering if imma make him kiss her or something o3o ive been toying with that idea for a few days now ;D]]
He raised a brow with a sly smile on his face, "Oh is it now? I might have to take a peek for myself." With a wink, he placed the watch back into his pocket looking back up at the stars, "I honestly have no idea why I work. I don't need it for the money..perhaps it's just to waste time while I wait for something worthwhile in my life?" He mulled the idea over for the next few hours, and soon, he could sense the sun was about to rise. He motioned to the horizon with a gloved hand, "Behold one of the most beautiful things you'll see." Within minutes, the coastline started to brighten until the orange-red hues of the sun started to show. The clouds that speckled the sky became an intense blend of oranges, reds, and a few pinks here and there. When the sun cleared the horizon, birds began to chirp and sing as they awoke the city.
