That just all went over my head....
I was actually just thinking about what I'd do if I ever played...With my pathetic strength/stamina, I'd probably be best at using a dagger. Problem with that is most players seem to wield swords. Looooong swords. Even using double daggers, I'd get owned. A staff (if legal?) would probably be my best option, but you can't really kill with a staff. STONEWALL WAS A RIOT

Games like this use padded weapons that tend to be quite lightweight. As I mentioned a couple pages ago, the most popular swords on my field only weighed a few ounces despite being over 3' long. So strength isn't actually a big deal.
One thing about double daggers is that it brings you into closer range. Players who get used to using long swords often don't know how to strike someone that's right up next to them. Learn to not be afraid of getting close and you'll be at an advantage. Also, if you put your weapon up against the base of your opponent's blade (again, easier if you get close) you essentially control where their weapon is going to go.

The weapons very somewhat by game system. A good overall review of Amtgard and Belegarth along with several other battle game systems can be found in the book Battle Gaming: The New American sport.

I'm not sure. Superficially it looks like a bot, but the fact that it's pinpoint-targeted to the right thread and names the right games (and not any other games in the genre) seems to indicate that it's a human. In fact, I suspect perhaps that it's someone quite proud of their new book Googling for discussions where they can plug it.
BattleGaming, so I don't have to ban you for advertising... mind poking your head in here again to prove your legitimacy?

Well, hopefully it's nothing like that~ I mean, one of my mules is named Belegarth, JUST because I want nobody from Bel to get the idea to come advertise here, and therefor, I have the name, I can represent the group XD

I've done Amtgard a lot and Dagohir a bit . . . I don't recall there being much roleplaying in either, though I believe Coda at one point was going to write a backstory for my character
Coda's glaive was very awesome, it was my favorite offhand weapon. My favorite weapon was probably my very first weapon, which was either a long one handed sword or a short two hander, which due to wear became curved and thus called a nodachi The only reason I didn't wear heavy armor was due to a lack of crafting skills and money, I love full plate as a concept . . . I mostly just wore cloth or leather Archery is an awesome thing, but I am horrible at it, reloading is a nightmare And clerics rule in 3.0, are my second favorite class. I'm not convinced they are overpowered though, Nanako the Cleric was tough, but not sure any tougher than anything else

Yes, you read that correctly: Panzerkit was using my 4'6" glaive as an OFFHAND weapon. XD

It was longer than that, with the glaive grounded it was as tall as I am (which was one of the advantages of using it as an offhand weapon, if I went defensive it could protect my entire body vertically, or I could use it to slash and stab at things out of sword reach offensively . . . . my main tactic was to use the glaive to poke and slash to encourage people to close to sword range, then turn the glaive defensive and cover my body as I attacked with the sword . . . then if they fell back attack with the glaive again)
I also had a buckler strapped to my glaive arm and usually had a few javelins. Id tuck my sword under my arm when I was throwing javelins

Are we thinking of the same glaive...? The one with the white blade and silver handle? I dunno, maybe it was around 5'... Then again I am considerably taller than you.

So, after being long disenchanted that there might not be people playing amtgard in my general area, I found out that one of my best friends not only plays it, but he was talking about playing it over the weekend on facebook.
I'm going to have to ask him if I can join him sometime, at least to watch at first...

Uhm....I've used our two largest weapons, Boneshaker and BAMFA, a giant axe and a giant scimitar, and actually kicked ass. ^^; It's all a matter of "How insane ARE you~?"
And....Jeebus, you must be strong O__O Carrying three javelins, a glaive, and a sword o.o <--Trisphee Kensai--> ![]()

That's less about strength -- all of those weapons except the no-dachi are fairly light -- and more about encumbrance, since of course padded weapons are really rather bulky.
Big weapons CAN be effective, in no small part because people used to fighting against smaller, lighter weapons will be intimidated as well as not know the right way to block them -- big weapons just MOVE differently. But against someone who knows how to fight against both large weapons and small weapons you're actually better off with the small weapons.

well, see, these things are friggin heavy, so..... it actually is somewhat strength xD
And...Well, kinda. It really depends what KIND of weapon. Though...give me a couple of small clubs, hammers, or axes? And prepare for havoc. Give me a javelin? HELL. YES. <--Trisphee Kensai--> ![]()
