It's me once again.. I've spent most of this summer doing nothing in all honesty because I'm just tired. What I DID do though is a liiitle deep dive into avi forum sites.. dead and alive! It was really fun doing so, and I'm planning on doing research on each one individually.. more on the ones that interest me the most ofcourse.. AND if I can find any information on the history of them. Ill post the list here. I'm curious to see if anyone here remembers any of these sites, or maybe is active on the few that are still up, or if anyone has any sites to add aswell :)

There IS a ??? section and some sites with ?? next to them... Now I need help with these ones. The sites on it, i could legitimately find NOTHING about them, especially varus online. I saw it mentioned on forums, but i can't find ANYTHING on it.. maybe it was just my lack of sleep at the time though.. lol

I'm very curious about what older people have to say about this list too.. I was too young to be on most of these old sites, so I did not experience them.. but I wish that I did.. avatar forum sites have to be one of my deepest, but at the same time, nichest interests

Sapherna is kinda back, but its new artwork and doesn't have the same charm to me. OG Sapherna was built on the Crysandrea code, then closed. The new version seems to be soemthing else entirely with respect to the tooling.

Grimsbrook is in the works and that'll be fun! Pondr is also in the works, but they haven't started advertising too much yet.

yep, half dont work on wayback archive either :( not too surprised about that... just sad that avi forum sites arent archived too well.

sapherna being back surprised me a LOT.. i wonder when registrations will be open for everyone, rn its invitation only. so, crysandrea and sapherna were essentially the same site, just tweaked a little?

grimsbook looks REALLY nice from what i could find! ill have to make a section for upcoming sites aswell now :) couldnt find anything about pondr though.. could you share links maybe? im very curious about it now!

Sorta! When Crysandrea closed, they ended up publishing their source code to Github for anybody to use. Sapherna was the first site (I believe) to take advtange of that. It was more or less a re-skinned version of Crysandrea UI-wise, but distinct from the world of Crysandrea.

I'm not sure there are any links to Pondr just yet, I just know the owner and got a preview. Super cute base with a nice and nostalgic UI. They wanted to have the core functionality built out before announcing anything and it looks like that part is all done, so hopefully some socials will be going up in the near future.

ooh, thats intriguing! publishing the source code seems like a really nice move of them as a final gift to the community incase anyone wanted to make a similar site. do you know any other sites that used the crysandrea source code?

There's been a few! Caedon used it. I thiiiiink Pantheon may have used it too, but it was heavily customized. Definitely possible Voltra used it too.

Oooh, I'll have to keep tabs on Grimsbrook! Liking what I'm seeing so far! The avi designs are really good!

I miss the avatars and items from Kinsaki so much! The dual color library spikes hair was so much fun to use!
Pretty sure at some point I was on at least half of all the dead sites.
I do have accounts on some of the active sites (Voltra, Subeta, and Gaia...and maybe Kingdom of Knuffel, though I think they deactivate or delete accounts that aren't used for a certain amount of time, so maybe not) but am mostly only active-ish here.
