Sweatbox Your Brain For Science!!! (and prizes) | #1
============
HOW IT WORKS ============ This will cover a range of topics including, but not limited to: memes, current events, comic books, movies, series, games (console, tabletop, pc), past events, site items, science, riddles, and cartoons. Every question will be worth a certain amount of points, which can be redeemed for currency for instant gratification, or saved up to snag something from the prize pool. Each day a question goes unanswered, the more points it'll be worth--but also the more likely it'll be that someone else will give it a go. You may answer an unlimited amount of questions, but keep in mind only the first correct answer will receive points. However, if you can give a convincing explanation to support your answer, you may also gain points, even if it wasn't the one I was looking for. Please post your answers in the format below, one question per post (you may ignore the triple post rule for this thread, if you're answering trivia questions): Quote:
======== PRIZE POOL ======== The person with the most points at the end of the event will win a full event item set, including newest posting rewards. The person with the second most points will win a full event item set excluding posting rewards. (Spent or not, your points will still count towards prize qualification, so don't be afraid to redeem them!) 1 Cubix Cube -- 1pt Mortal Kimono -- 100pt Infernal Kimono -- 100pt Striped Mortal Kimono -- 100pt Striped Infernal Kimono -- 100pt Floral Mortal Kimono -- 100pt Floral Infernal Kimono -- 100pt Plumed Headpiece -- 100pt Plumed Leotard -- 100pt Fine Plumed Headpiece -- 100pt Fine Plumed Leotard -- 100pt Traditional Plumed Headpiece -- 100pt Traditional Plumed Leotard -- 100pt Laced Dress -- 100pt Fine Laced Dress -- 100pt Traditional Laced Dress -- 100pt Showman Top -- 100pt Fine Showman Top -- 100pt Traditional Showman Top -- 100pt ---------- ============ PARTICIPANTS (in alphabetical order) ============ E=points earned (total) A=points available (to spend) ========= QUESTIONS worth 50 points worth 75 points worth 125 points worth 175 points worth 250 points FINAL ========= New questions drop after 10p EST each evening, but points will be allocated all throughout the day. If you know you have more points than listed and want to buy (or correct if you feel I overlooked something), feel free to post or PM me. I go through every single post, I'll see it. Sections are now coded in the highest-earning color for easier navigation. MEMES CARTOONS SCIENCE COMICS PUNS/RIDDLES/JOKES HISTORY MOVIES MYTHOLOGY Disclaimer: I am including all religion, belief systems, superstition, and other phenomenon here. This term is not intended as a slight to those that subscribe to such beliefs, but a simple classification. Product Mascot

I mean, it does sound the same. XD
And Beetlejuice was, in fact, a cartoon before it was done as a movie.

I never actually got to watch it (the cartoon) when I was younger, but there were 2 episodes in the bonus features on my dvd copy of the movie.

How did 'memes' get their name?
IT'S FROM ANCIENT GREEK OMG CAN'T BELIEVE MY KNOWLEDGE IS USEFUL *coughs* The term was first used by Dawkins to signify what he tried to explain as the 'cultural gene' something that self-replicated equal but different (look at me trying to explain things sleepy). It comes from the ancient greek μιμεῖσθαι, to imitate. That word is also root for other English words like mimic and mime.

What was the 'in front of my salad??' meme originally referring to?
It's from a porn movie, two guys start getting at it in the kitchen in front of a girl, who gets outraged and says 'c'mon guys, right now? In front of my salad?'
