Alright, then I run back to the pit, grab the climbing gear that should still be lying somewhere on the way and help Pessi out there.

Derpy hugs the small child. "You stay here. It safe. Imma go back to save Pessi!" Derpy grabs a small sandwich and heads back, nibbling on the sandwich as he waddles off.

Throw your mace at it and hope it hits? Run in and try to bash it in the eyes? poke its tail?
