It's not so much the believing in me that's the issue so much as trying to draw something and getting disgusted with my lack of natural talent and learned skill and throwing the pen/pencil down and not attempting art again for the next approx 3-5 years. Repeat.

Well, I've tried paint, pencil, pen, and digital. I've tried avatar art, animals, people, plants, etc.
About the only thing left to try would be clay.
And unfortunately, sculptures of my OCs would take up far too much room.

I partly blame my parents. Because my older sister was very competitive, to keep the household peace, anything she was good at, I was discouraged from doing. So she got to learn to play piano and sing and all her art in school was praised. And I learned clarinet and was miserable because my art and other things never measured up.

Kaderin I can relate to this so hard.
I have an older sister who draws, but mostly just horses. Since she started drawing, I've been interested in it, too. Sadly, my lack of natural talent is apparent and I have like little to no motivation most of the time to draw anything. That's partly the reason as to why I want to use my Club Thread to kind of force myself to draw something. I could never do it as a job, though, cause I would totally die if I had to draw things for someone by a certain due date.

What kinds of crafts do you do?
I've been wanting to get into things like sewing and knitting, and eventually move onto cosplay and armor/weapon making.

I do loom knitting, chainmaille (mainly just jewelry, but I really want to learn actual clothes shaping for other stuf), and plan on learning scalemaille. I can do knitted scalemaille with my loom knitting, but would like to do regular for other stuff. I used to embroider some but, of course, my sister started doing it and I lost interest.

Oh and once I can afford a sewing machine, I want to learn to sew also.

You shouldn't let ur butthole of a sister ruin things for you. I would know, I have 4 sisters (technically 5 now since my mom got remarried). Its always been competitive and still is, but I try not to let that get to me and ruin things I enjoy doing.

Well, to be completely honest, embroidery, while good to know, kind of isn't my thing. The important things that I like are actually the things that she doesn't like, so she can't ruin them anyway.
But I mean...grow up in a family where if she likes something then it's amazing and she's great at it but when I like the same thing it's largely ignored/unimportant and I'm constantly compared (negatively) to her and have that continue through into adulthood too and it really screws up your brain. It is exceedingly difficult to keep myself from instantly "getting bored with"/quit doing crafts, hobbies, etc that she picks up.
So I do things that she thinks are "weird" or just don't interest her. But I really enjoy them a lot so it works out.

Also...sorry. I'm probably coming off as pretty whiny. XP
I'm kind of tired and irritable from last week plus seasonal allergies.

Personal story on my end

I didn't grow up with any of my siblings, but had a general situation that makes me feel similar to your story T.T
My father always wanted a son (had 5 daughters) so He would constantly tell me even as a child that I wouldn't amount to anything. So I would actively persue hobbies that I thought would make him happy, but he always turned them on me,
Cross country to him was me training for the olympics, and if I wasn't serious about competing I shouldn't play. Writing books only meant that I could author him better stories. I thought about film directing, but he turned into me trying to make him exact replica movies of his favorite books. So on so forth.
The things he never supported me in? Band and Art XD
I also played clarinet at first, but moved on to bass clarinet and saxaphones, dabbled in a few horns and percussion. He attended a total of 5 concerts, and I was in band from 4th till 12th.
He always told me my art would get me nowhere and I was terrible at it anyways. He hated me drawing anime style people too XD
I wasn't held against competition per say, just told that regardless of what I did it wasn't good enough unless it was for him.

My parents were pretty absent in my life growing up, so my four sisters and I competed (and are still pretty competitive) over their attention. It's quite annoying.
My dad is a whole 'nother story I don't even want to get into, lol.
