Wow, that does sound like a frenzy! Sounds like main street of the town next to us, every single shop was a stop. A friend of my mom's takes his grandson on Saturdays and they just walk up and down until they fill up. So you're good on balls for a while, yeah?

Likely. We went downtown again (I have to make three trips through there this week) so now I'm sitting at 140 regular balls, plus whatever everything else. The slow traffic at a couple of points makes it easier.
I have a fun time just checking out what the stops are. We have a lot of art things around here, statues and mosaics in the sidewalks and whatnot, a lot of stuff I didn't know was there. I'll tap a stop, and then start looking for if it's something interesting. PS: Oh yes, didn't catch anything new the past couple days but I did hatch a sandshrew and a pikachu! Sandshrew was one of the ones I had in my original team in Blue, same with Pikachu but Sandshrew was unexpected at the time.

Yeah it's really cool seeing what are stops, especially when the things you think would be stops aren't! From art murals to helicopter displays to the water tower even. They picked some interesting ones.
We've been overloaded with water types lately, I caught three Krabby within five minutes of each other. But tonight we got a Growlithe!

Since I played Ingress while living in Los Angeles, I don't get that feeling. :P There are so many portals/PokeStops around here that I have the opposite reaction -- I'm surprised if a random and/or crazy thing ISN'T one.

I guess I expected more well known areas of the city. Things like the skating rink, which has been here since my mom was little, the farmer's market, the flea market, they're not, but this tiny little thing you can't even call a clock tower is? I guess because it's a monument. I've heard cemeteries are big places, as well, but there's not a single one in the three cemeteries in town.
And the recreational park, to have so many sports fields, baseball, soccer, football, just the playground is a stop and one field is a gym. There's another field on the other side of town that's a gym and the museum. And for some reason half of it registers as water. Off the top of my head, might miss a stop or two, from our house you go north, to the left there's a church, to the right is another church, the playground, and the ballpark gym. When you come back down, there's the helicopter display, another church, the front of the library, the clock, the side of the courthouse, the museum gym, and the fountain. The post office, the other softball gym, the sign of that park is a stop, too. Then on the other side of town, there's the fire station, two more churches, and the water tower. So churches and public institutions make up most of ours.

I wonder if the municipalities have a say in whether there are stops around and what are stops if it's all in the game? I'm in Vancouver and North Vancouver right now. Since it's a big and popular city, not surprised to see how many there were, and I noticed they nearly all marked art or historical landmarks instead of buildings, like plaques, sculptures, sidewalk art, statues, etc.
When I'm in North Van, it's more of the same really, except there's lots of Native American art, like totem poles and such, and for some reason our decorated electrical boxes, post boxes, or sidewalk poles are stops as well. I've seen several. Meanwhile, the mall complex in the small town I actually live by (which isn't all that small) has absolutely nothing. No stops. The stores and stuff aren't obscure in any way, but there is just nothing there. The largest cluster I've found is the walking trail I take along the river.

Related to whether or not something is a stop, is a lot of research or thought put into it? I remember seeing on the news when a stop or gym was outside a known Hell Angel's club house. I think it's been removed, but I was a little shocked to see that a particular strip club was a stop. I mean, I think it might have some historical significance to the city iirc, but still...
One the other hand, we are talking downtown and I can't say that I see all that many school age kids wandering about there.

It kind of feels, like the strip club at least, was for more adult players. Pokemon has always never been just for kids, and lately they've seemed to make nods towards the kids who grew up and still play as adults. It might have also been the most recognizable landmarks on that areas?
I dunno, I've also heard you can suggest stops. Maybe cities do have say, because as you said, I've heard of some being removed, or maybe they try to decide what's really noticeable? On a non stop related note, we walked all around our little area here and finally got the first Clefairy! Also caught a Vulpix yesterday in the same spot we caught a Psyduck the day before. But I have to stop checking at like one in the morning, Tentacool was in the sighted and I'm not going out at that time of night expect maybe for something like Snorlax. Even if she needs it!

Businesses can file a request with Niantic to have their locations unlisted as PokeStops. I think Niantic is also accepting applications for new stops, but priority for those goes to areas that don't have many (or any) stops.

I see. I don't feel we have many, but to some we do. I wish there were some between here and my dad's house, about six miles, but there's nothing, and nothing that is unique enough to be a stop.

A few days ago I got in a bit of trouble. Haha, long story, but my sister was in her room looking for her canvases, and I checked. While I waited for her character to stop walking, a Cubone showed up. So I ran out and did our loop. We live on a road kind of like a T. We'll go up one end, cross the street, all the way down to the other end and around the side of the grocery store. If we don't hit it there, it's usually on the four lane highway which none of us are going to risk. Near the store entrance, I got Cubone.
Well, while searching, Abra showed up. I figured it was around the front of the store, but I was just going to go home. It didn't disappear, so I did the loop again (turns out I found it on the way home, it was in the neighbor's driveway). But just as I got to the door, she was coming out to find me because I had been gone too long. It was kind of cute. As for the update, she hates the eggs are color coded. I love it, and think it's really cute. There's also type symbols on the Pokemon's page, which she also doesn't like but I think is cute. The Halloween event really sounds exciting. I can do without Zubat and Golbat, who we see a lot of, but Ghastly, Haunter, Gengar, Drowzee, and Hypno? Yes please! We only have three Ghastly and none are high CP. And only one Drowzee as well. Also the bonus candy! We're going to be walking a lot to get her some Charmander candy, even if it is just up and down our usual route to catch spawns. Doing those two loops I did, and walking down to the dollar store later that day, was over 2 kilometers.

I just got 25 exp for a fleeing Pidgey. Did they just add that, or has it always been there and I just haven't noticed?

I think they just added it.
They also doubled the candy acquisition rate for the event! Games by Coda (updated 4/8/2025 - New game: Marianas Miner)
