EDIT: My problem with that phrase is that it's similar to "the ends justify the means", by which I don't agree with at all. I'm using it in more of a "doing good and well-intentioned acts by unconventional ways from the shadows."

I parse it more like "finding the silver lining" or "diamond in the rough", saying that you can do good even when things are bad.

Also in Latin it's the inflection, not the word order.
