Default Apocalyptica   #1
So I heard of these guys through my brother when he played for me their cover of Metallica's "One" and it was one of the more interesting things I've heard in a while. I'm not an uberfan, but I do like their stuff and I'm curious if anyone else here is fond of them as well.

For those who aren't familiar with the group, Apocalyptica is a Finnish cello band that plays heavy metal. Their first album was "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos." It sounds surprising but it works out really well. They've since added a drummer and guest guitar players but I still prefer the straight up cellos.

I'd love to see them live. I hear it's great fun but I keep missing out for one reason or another. Oh well. Anyone else have stuff to say about these guys? Like them? Don't like them? Appreciate the artistic endeavour? Think it's butchery to classical music? It's all fair. :)

I love, love, love, love, love Apocalyptica.

Their cellos make my heart pound. Harmaggedon is an amazing song.
And if you have a chance, look up the "Life Burns" collaboration video.

Where does Harmageddon appear? I'm not actually familiar with many of their songs, or the ones they cover. I only have World's Collide so far, on which "Stroke" is my favourite I think. My favourite song of what I've heard so far though is the cover of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters."

I've only seen them do one collab on youtube and that was "Bittersweet" with Ville Valo and the singer from The Rasmus. I'll keep it in mind to look the other one up.

It's in their Inquisition Symphony album, the same one with Nothing Else Matters.

Ah. I might have to invest in that one then. I was looking at their albums in the music store and was humming and hawing over the lot because I could only really afford one, and I only justified buying that one because I was writing a basic presentation on them for class and wanted some of their music to play. ;). I love university!

Apocolyptica = One of the most amazing bands ever in my opinion.

I actually just adore apocalyptica to pieces, but it's not their metallica covers that make me love them. My favourite song will forever be Quutamo.

I also really like Rajaton and Detektivbyran. Different music entirely, but still the same general area of the world.

Apocalyptica = classic favourite for me.
I'm always in the mood to listen to them. :)
And thanks to them, I got into The Rasmus.
Which I love, too. Guh, Lauri. <3

My favourite song has to be their rendition of In the Hall of the Mountain King.
It's so intense!

I've heard Hall of the Mountain King but only once. Not sure what I thought about it. Generally I like listening to "One" for something lengthy.

They're definitely an interesting and unique band, and I love a lot of their covers. They're pretty amazing, but they're not a band I listen to on a regular basis unless I'm in a specific sort of mood.

Speaking of odd Metallica cover bands, has anyone here heard of van Canto? They're a heavy metal a cappella band (a band that uses their voices as instruments) that makes some Metallica covers as well as their own original music. People seem to either really like the band or really dislike the band and see them as a joke, but I personally think that they're pretty talented, and they definitely make some interesting covers. Here's their "Battery" cover and one of their original songs, "Lost Forever." I'd consider listening to "Lost Forever" first, though, because "Battery" is kinda crazy in a cappella form.

Also, their drummer is totally cheating.

Great band, but I agree with Darth Vader here. I don't listen to them very often.

I'm quite busy lately. I may poof for several days at a time.

a cappella band metal sounds fascinating. I listened to the second song there, since I don't know "Battery." It was okay. I really liked the beginning but I think the song leaned too much on the drummer after that. Voice work does get tough though. I'll have to check out more of their stuff.

I never heard Lauri before until bumping into "Bittersweet," and that's because I like Ville from HIM.

I admit though, from listening to "Helden" with Apocalyptica I'm curious about Rammstein.

I only like one of their songs. "I Don't Care" or whatever it is.
