Symphonic Metal | #1 | |
Just a little thread about symphonic metal, as I'm curious as to how many people actually listen to it o-o And hopefully I can discover some new bands that you guys listen too :D
for those of you who don't know what it is, here's a bit from the Wiki article xD 'Symphonic metal is heavy metal music that has symphonic elements; that is, elements that are borrowed from other music genres (i.e. classical music, progressive rock) but usually with more keyboards or acoustic guitars and typically an operatic female lead vocalist.' The main one people tend to have heard of is Nightwish, for a reference. so, please come in and share your knowledge on such artists :D

Oooh, symphonic metal is a big yes for me! I listen to Within Temptation, mainly. And some other bands, I'm not sure if they're entirely symphonic metal though.

There's also Epica, Lacuna Coil, and Xandria.

listening to Xandria right now, and i have listened to a fair bit of the other two, but don't own anything from them.
Unsun, Nightwish, Tarja Turunen, Sirenia, Amberian Dawn, After Forever and Amaranthe are a few others i would recommend.

I listen to Xandria and Epica more than Lacuna Coil. Just a personal preference. I really like the melodies in Xandria.

I listen to a lot of songs by Adrian von Ziegler; some of those are Symphonic Metal. His stuff is usually purely instrumental...and really good background music for studying.

...wow. I wonder how that happened? I don't know much about the bands' people themselves, but I just had to stop and gape for a moment.

Epica's already been mentioned, but I love them~
They have a freaking orchestra for most of their songs. So much talent! I also enjoy melodic death metal. xP

Epica and Nightwish are pretty amazing (I especially love the "Imperial March" cover by Epica and "Moon Dance" by Nightwish. I frickin' love melodic death metal, too. xD Any and almost all kinds of metal really. >w>
The song "No Leaf Clover" by Metallica would definitely be considered a symphonic metal song, as well, even though they're not a symphonic metal band. Also, I have no idea how you feel about symphonic death metal, but if you'd be interested in that, there are quite a few bands out there that use growls but also heavily symphonic elements like violins, orchestras, and choirs. A few bands (linked with a sample song) are Septicflesh, Eternal Tears of Sorrow (definitely recommended for what you seem to be interested in), Immanifest, and Fleshgod Apocalypse. ![]()
