Song parodies | #1 | |
I think the most well-known musical artist is Weird Al Yankovich. I do like a few of his parodies.
But I will be honest. Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye has become an unbelievably popular song. I feel like I can relate to it, and I think many others can as well, bringing light to his beautiful music. I don't get why people feel the need to make fun of it. It's a perfectly meaningful song and I think it helps people become more in touch with their feelings. I'm seeing photos popping up everywhere that poke fun at the lyrics to his most successful song thus far. I feel like people doing this will keep people afraid of showing how they really feel because it's hard to when everyone makes fun of something they're feeling. The same thing happened with James Blunt's song "You're beautiful". The first time I heard and saw it was on a music channel and I thought it was amazing. The parodies that came after it is what ruined the song for me. Haven't listened to it since. What is everyone's thoughts on musical parodies? Do they ruin the original song for you? « ☼ ☾ ✰ » Semi-Active.

I enjoy parodies. But only for songs I don't really enjoy. Like Weird Al's parody of Gangsta Paradise (Amish Paradise) is a favorite of mine!
I also enjoy his parody of Born This Way by GaGa, even though I actually like that song. It really all depends for me... Sign My Siggy!!!...I Dare You!...PS...Luffles to all who do!!! le sign ;3-signs more ;P -signs- Love, Ulti♥ owo~ -this is my signature- <3 Lacry Lucid was here. No. Yes.

☯I have only ever listened to Weird Al and Bob Rivers. (Not by choice for the latter) and I like them. To me they do not ruin the original song. But that is me listening to Weird Al too and no one else. I don't think I would want to try to listen to anyone else. It might ruin the original for me. ± : . : ± : . : ± : . ☠ ± : . : ± : . : ± : .

I like many parodies! Weird Al is my favorite, and next to Weird Al has to be Brental Floss. Weird Al is someone everyone knows, so i won't get into detail on who he is.
Brental Floss rarely gets his glory. He's a music writer, a vocalist, and graphics person. His choice of parodies is Videogame themes; like Mario and Paperboy. He recently put another album out for sale, called Bits of Me.

I love parodies. If I like a song, I will almost always go hunting for parodies of it. It makes it a more overall enjoyable experience for me.
My favorite parodies are the older Key of Awesome ones. I like Weird Al very much, but I've listened to all of his so much that I can't really get into them anymore.

I'd say it depends on the parody. Weird Al seems to do them in at least a respectful manner to the original, though that's just my view...I'm more comparing that to other parodies I've seen which are more of a "I'm going to completely make fun of this" kind. I'd say if I don't like the original song, a parody of the song might be good to me.
On the other hand I don't listen to songs that much and sometimes I hear a parody song and have no idea there was an original one. So I may not be the best person to voice my opinion on this :3 ![]() ♥ Never be afraid to be yourself ♥ Want to see my art or webcomic? Parodies are not always meant to be an insult to the original. I wouldn't take such offense at a parody of my favorite artist. There is a difference between joking about a song and actually mocking it. There is no need to get offended by the former.
I have never seen a parody of Somebody That I Used to Know, but I loved Coheed and Cambria's cover. ^^

I think parodies are awesome if they're done right.
The most recent parody I've seen is this It's even funnier because I know someone who looks like him.

I grew up listening to Wierd Al, which makes for some interesting moments because I'm more likely to have heard the parody before the original song. It does make me more interested in the song. I remember watching an old Disney montage done to "Eat It" and yes, this was before I knew who Michael Jackson was.
I think some of my favourite songs of his are actually originals, though I'm not totally sure. Was "One more Minute" a parody? (Not sure I have the right title. The guy who'd rather do a pile of nasty things than spend another minute with someone). I tend to look at parodies the same way I look at covers; each on their own merit and quality. Some stuff makes me roll my eyes and other stuff is actually pretty funny.

I like a few parody songs. Some are just pointless and silly, which is alright as long as it's not blatantly rude. Some actually give a new take on the meanings of the songs. Truth be told, I still love original songs and sometimes parodies ruin them.
