MUTANT D:
Default Holy Rain Batman!   #1
Wow, I love storms, but yesterday cut the cake.
In twenty minutes friends of ours called us and told us they can't actually, physically get out of their door without a wall of water.
So, as soon as the rain let up, we got our buckets and lots of towels and went to help them out.
Turns out, they weren't exaggerating.
The water was up to the second step of the stairs to their basement suite.
Since the stairs go into the ground, it's surrounded by a cement box with no top...
The drain that stops that from happening, turns out it doesn't actually work...
So we bucketed water for two hours to get them and their neighbors on the other side out.

Anyone ever had to bucket someone/their basement out before?
That water is bloody COLD.

Wow. No I haven't. Though, I've driven through a number of nasty rainstorms. They pop up so suddenly in the summer. Once I had to pull over because the rain was coming down that hard.

Well, it would have been fine if the landlord hadn't told them she wouldn't bring a shop-vac over, that it was their problem to deal with... =_=

But I've had to do that a few times. Same with my fiance.
I remember the one time there was no one even trying to drive for that twenty minutes it rained, it was raining so hard.
The highway was dead.

Um, it is the landlords problem if the drain isn't working. So, by telling them it's there own problem isn't the right thing to do.

If they live in an apartment complex, they can go to the Better Business Bureau and if the landlord refuses to fix the non working drain, they may be able to sue the landlord for any water damage done to their stuff...

Just saying since the landlord sounds a bit like a complete and total jerk...

Sad thing is, is the landlord told the neighbors that if they didn't like it they could just move out.

Is it the Better Business Bureau in Canada though? I don't know. I suppose we'll have to look it up.

I'm not sure if they are in Canada. However, I do know that the landlord has to take care of the properties he rents out. If it is in their lease that he has to fix/maintain/has certain duties to either the tenants or the property itself, then he just violated the lease. In which case he can get into trouble.

Also, if you have an attitude like that you might end up losing more tenants then attracting in the long run.

Nope, never done that before, but I bet you were freezing and so kind of you to do that for your neighbors.
