The protagonist of the tale, who is fighting the bigbad in the past. Little does she know that she is from an ultimate timeline, and that the endboss is her past self. With the boss's defeat, she herself fades from existance.

The ending movie shows her being reborn into a new, more peaceful life as reward for her heroic deeds.

The first boss you encounter, who is astoundingly easy to defeat. But, by the end of the game, you come to find out that 1) They are not evil. 2) They've been orchestrating every major event in the game, and 3) They do not expect you to succeed, you silly little protagonist. But, you gain their respect as you prove them wrong, defeating them in battle for the final time.

The unlikely protagonist who originally wanted to destroy the world. But, then a jerk came along and stripped them of their powers. So, for now, they'll fight to save the world, if only to regain their power so they can destroy it themself. (( At least, that's how they feel at the beginning. ))

I would say a magic user who spent all there money at some fancy inn and now need to find group of people to travel with to gain back some monies.

One of the big-bads that seduces one of your party members, twisting their minds and turning them into a level field-boss. You don't get to exact revenge until the end of the game, and even then there runs a chance she'll turn your comrade against you, still having him in her thrall.
