Sounds familiar, I think I've listened to their stuff before at some point.

Edit: Wait, yeah, I was just checking them out a couple weeks ago. Remind me of Dimmu before they got so weird.

I just figured you'd appreciate the Sheol reference, considering they have an entire album devoted to it. I might also suggest Arsis. They are more along the lines of symphonic death metal, but represent a very significant metal foundation for me, and are highly sentimental.

I might also suggest bands like Nevermore and Mors Principium Est. I've never been a massive fan of Goth or Doom metal, I'm particular towards Death and Black. But I love meh some Industrial Goth. :)

Oh and Abigail Williams might something worth checking out. They can be... errr... scary sometimes, but make heavy enough music with enough instrumental synth and play for a good mixture.
Maybe it's a condition, ever think of that? No, no you didn't. You never thought, "oh maybe he's sensitive about his invisible eyes." Maybe it's a skin condition.

Wow, that's some list. My knowledge of metal is woefully lacking but I do like the stuff. I can blame my previous dungeon master in gaming nights for introducing me into some stuff, as well as my step sister and her bad influence :p.

CD's I actually own:

Apocalyptica
Deadsy (Europe, not sure where. Listed as metal but not sure I would call it that)
Hammerfall (Swedish power/speed)
HIM (Finnish goth/symphonic)
Nightwish
System of a Down

Most of the time I tend to just keep track of stuff that I like, which also includes the following.

Adema
Avenged Sevenfold
Chevelle
Disturbed
Dragonforce
Korn
Metallica
Vintersorg (Swedish)

Those are what come to mind right now. There are a couple songs from the Galerians: Rion soundtrack that I quite like but can't for the life of me remember who did them. "The Hate in Me" is one which I keep thinking is Godhead, and one which I think I identified as "TOAB" and I want to say Sevendust, but I'm not sure.

Sevendust is baller. I've never heard of Vintersorg, will check them out. Nor Deadsy or Hammerfall. I'm a big old school Korn fan. Chevelle and Disturbed are also mah shiznizzle. I would recommend Primer 55. A little more punk rockish/hardcore, but still that same feel of "bad" heavy you get from Korn and Disturbed. You also might like 10 years.

Vintersorg is Swedish, in Swedish so you know. ;). They are on iTunes. I had to look up Sweidsh language music for a class once, and picked up a couple songs along the way.

Hammerfall is not unlike Dragonforce I'd say, but I'm not all that up on power metal bands. I tend to stick with what I know and don't venture out a lot. They changed singers not long ago I think, but that's doesn't seem to hurt the band any. Fantasy based lyrics often, and the same with some of their videos. "Natural High" shows that fantasy angle rather well (including narration I believe ;)). Haven't actually watched too many though.

I've only listened to a couple songs from people from the latter list in my post. Some I like, some I don't. It's hit or miss with Korn to me, and same with Disturbed. No that fond of "Down with the Sickness" but I do like "Prayer." I used to listen to Staind but I don't know if I'd call it metal. I haven't heard enough by Sevendust to judge as a whole (did they do "Denial"?)

As I said before, not sure if Deadsy really qualifies as metal. Not bad though, but I'm not fond of all their stuff.

I like Dragonforce for their technical abilities more so than their style. I stick to my evil guns for themes and lyrics. I love Apocalyptica though, but more so because classical holds a special place in my life. I don't actually know if Sevendust did Denial. There is an easy, obvious way to find out though.

Hammerfall just got massive props. Their vocalist reminds me of a little less distinct version of Nevermore, which are pretty similar. Hammerfall also remind me of the Sword, which is an awesome, very old school dnd type fantasy band.

That there is. And yes, Sevendust did a song called "Denial" and I imagine it's the one I'm thinking of. My step sister made a metal CD for me some time ago and unearthing it has not been a priority of mine. A fair bit of it comes from the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. I tend to skip about half the songs on there now because I'm not all that fond of them and since my tastes have changed over time (this was some years ago).

I tend to lean towards the softer stuff than the hard core thrashing, depending on the song of course. My favourite Apocalyptical cover is their version of "Nothing Else Matters", and from their latter album it's "Stroke" which I think is original, and after they picked up a drummer.

I started listening to metal about 9 years or so ago and have been infatuated since. Only over the last 5 years did my library really start to bloom, but I find myself listening to music at least 8hrs a day.

Editted my above post to include some thoughts on Apocalyptica.

I don't listen to music as much as I used to. I imagine it comes from not having a ready stereo anymore, and I prefer not to use headphones. I'm sure things would be better if I stopped misplacing my iPod too.

After buying $130 noise canceling bass enhanced headphones... it's really really really hard NOT to listen to music all the time. I really enjoy Apocalyptica's softer music as well, I also prefer their darker music to their other renditions. I especially loved their rendition of "Hall of the Mountain King". It brings out the nerdy necromancer in me. ';..;'
