...copypasta-ed off my FB wall because I'm still angry as hell.

Got into a huge argument with my dad over my hair color (he wanted me to get a haircut and dye it back to my original color once I got back), where I argued that it's my freaking hair and I can do whatever the hell I want with it.

"Okay, fine. If you dye it back, I'll be happy. If you don't, you'll lose my respect and I'll be disappointed, but that's your choice."

Goddamn right it's my choice. So now my hairstyle looks a bit dogchewed, but the gold bits are gone. My choice, right?

But yeah, since the color was the main problem, I got rid of it. Sure, I'm going to have to deal with the short ends sticking up a bit for a while, but...-shrugs- Really, I wanted to do that, too, just not so soon. And if anything, I only have myself to blame.

Might as well get a short haircut after I get back home.

why do parents have to rant about hair? my grandmother does it everytime I die my hair >> I don't do weird colors or anything though this time I've gone bright red and she hasn't seen it yet haha. Last time I bleached it blonde and she said it looked shit.
So I can relate about the parents and hair thing *le sigh* I don't know how to help with it other than try to keep the peace so to speak however but gah I feel ya Espy

not going to lie, i would not have backed down. it makes you look weak and encourages him to do it again in the future since he knows now that nagging works really well

Seriously, I'm just peeved that he would actually withdraw respect from me for doing what I want to /my/ hair.

My mom's spiel about it was that it made me seem really outgoing, and a different personality than who I usually am, and that people will give me a second look because of my hair color. And in Asian cultures, "outgoing" is a bit similar to "slutty".

But seriously, when KGB (campus org) went to Buca di Beppo the other day, out of a table of six, five of us had weirdly colored hair. In CMU, colorful hair is widely accepted.

@Choco: I did not back down. Backing down would have meant that I get a haircut and have my hair dyed. What I did was to cut my own hair, therefore doing things by my own hand, and living up to the consequences.

I bleached my hair. This is why my parents are so angry at me. My dad wanted me to get it dyed back to my original color. The haircut was just a thing that needed to happen anyways, because my hair is too long. I just made it happen prematurely by cutting off the bleached parts of my hair.

My mom hates it when I get pixie cuts because she says it makes me look like a lesbian. But now that I live on my own, I can cut my hair however I want and she can't do anything about it. On the other hand, I do pre-approve haircuts with the husband.

Basically, I find hair to be a personal expression. I respect everybody's right to decide their own hairstyle. I also judge people very heavily on their hair. That's just me, but I think you should be able to keep your hair how you want it. I also happen to think your parents are wacko anyway.
