I started RPing back when I was 11 or 12, whenever my big brother would let one join him and his high school friends when they player AD&D... and did so on and off for almost 20 years (yes, let's get it out of the way, I AM OLD- if you can't get past that, it's okay - move along to the next thread that may be better suited for you).

I would like to get back into RPing, but I would really appreciate having a tutor or a coach one-on-one for a while to help me get back into it, here on Tris.

**EXPERIENCE**

As stated in my first post, I RP'd for about 20 years.

I limited my table-top RPs to AD&D and Gamma World in my tweens through early teens, then dropped it for the last two years of high school. I picked AD&D back up in college, and continued for several year, expanding from AD&D to another RP calles Champions. I always RPed in groups of five to eight people.

During my post-college playing days, I also played Magic: The Gathering for about six years (anyone interested in buying a Mox Emerald from Unlimited? ^_~). I continued with M:TG for a few years after I stopped playing AD&D on a regular basis, but had to give it up when I fell ill and couldn't keep up with weekly games.

I started pouring myself into working with dolls, making semi-elaborate dioramas with back stories for most of my "character" dolls.

In 2005, my younger cousin talked me into joining GaiaOnline *shudder* That was where my RPing stopped. The people there were, for the most part, extremely mean to me and other newbies. Given what my illness had destroyed my real-life social life (none of my friends could handle me becoming disabled, so they deserted me), I was (and still am) pretty fragile emotionally.

With the bullshit on Gaia, the damage was done, and I haven't RP'd since.

**WHY A TUTOR?**

What I am looking for is someone who has the patience to help me learn the proper way to RP online. I know it's different from RPing live, but I don't know the proper etiquette, for lack of a better term.
Also, since I do most of my internet stuff on my phone, I'm not very quick with my replies.

As I stated in my last post, there are a few things that have contributed to my desire to be tutored before trying to join any RP.
Other than Gaia, I haven't RP'd online, and that was almost 7 years ago. It was pretty traumatizing the way they treated me as a newbie... and after being alienated by my real life friends, it was enough to get me to stop trying.

I think that RPing is a great way to keep one's mind active, and I have some pretty heavy stuff going on in my life right now that is only going to get worse. My eldest cat, Sassy, one whom I have raised since she was four weeks old, was diagnosed with an aggressive malignant tumor in her upper gums, lip, and bone. When I first took her to the vet for swelling over her right upper incisor in mid Feb, the preliminary findings were that she just had an abscess (infected tooth) and she was put on antibiotics until they could get her in for a dental appointment on Feb 28th (cats are put under anesthesia for any dental work- even routine cleaning). Well, it turns out that the infection was covering the tumor, which is why it wasn't discovered at the first visit. There's nothing the vet can do to get rid of the cancer since it is already in the bone.. He told me on Feb 28th that she had anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to live. I don't deal well with the loss of one of my cats, so I figured that getting into RP could prove to be therapeutic.
I adopted Sassy and her two littermates as a package deal. Both of her brothers have already passed away from cancer, one in 2009 and the other in 2011. In 2009, I pretty much lost it and retreated from even my online friends. I was a basketcase for MONTHS. In 2011, I decided to try to get back into two avatar sites to help keep my mind occupied, only to find that one site had become a ghost town and the other ... all my old friends had quit the site and left it to the teenagers.
I am hoping that I can do better here on Tris. The site is super active, and everyone I have met so far is super nice. I figure that if there is anywhere that I may be able to find a tutor for RPing, Tris is the place. And, once I get the hang of it and feel comfortable joining an RP group, I can possibly make some more new friends ^_^

So, there's my reasons for 1. Wanting a tutor; and 2. Why I am even interested in getting into online RPing.

**MY ORIGINAL CHARACTERS**

I have two different OCs, the main one into which I have put the most thought is my character, Kiddiss. The spoiler in my sig shows a fairly comprehensive view of what the character looks like. She is an anthro-feline.
Her usual form is human, late 20's, slender athletic build, 5'7", light skin tone, red hair, with the following feline features: black cat ears & sleek black tail, retractable claws (as hard and sharp as cut diamonds), and green cat eyes. She can transform into two other shapes at will: a regular looking short-hair black cat (with her "bat" wings hidden, but usable), and a large black panther (again, with hidden wings). Her eyes are always green cat's eyes:

She generally wears an all-black utilitarian leather catsuit with boots and gloves. She carries many weapons - mostly types of swords, daggers, and throwing knives, carefully placed all around her catsuit. She wears her sword on her left hip; has throwing knives in her gloves/gauntlets, tucked into pockets on her waist, lower back, bodice/corset, shoulder guards (when wearing them), inner thighs, and boots; daggers inside her gloves that she can quickly access, as well as multiple other daggers on her person (depending on her outfit); and retractable blades in the toes and heels of her boots. If she is wearing her hair up, the pins in her hair are actually perfectly weighted throwing needles. She is proficient with most ancient human weapons, but will never be seen with a firearm unless she has retrieved it from a fallen foe- and then ONLY if her usual weapons are deemed ineffective for her current task. She is ambidextrous, but favors her right hand. I have a back story that explains her origins from the fall of Adam and Eve, to events in ancient Egypt (that explain why an angel of a high "choir" has the appearance she has), up through about the 14th century Earth time (which explains her Celtic jewelry).
She is one of the angels brought to Earth at the time of Adam and Eve's exile from paradise when Adam was stripped of his charge of the care of the fauna of the Earth. Her strange appearance is not due to an action of her own, but of another Seraph you may know by the name of Bastet, or simply Bast. Bast was like Kiddiss - a Seraphim Felis Cattus (Kiddiss is a re-imagining of the word Cattus). In Egypt, Bastet was spotted by a group of humans, who fell to their knees and worshiped her. As she was a Guardian Angel of cats, the Egyptians concluded that all cats were gods, and Bastet was THE cat goddess. Bastet, like other angels before her, fell from grace with the true Living God and was kicked out of the ranks of God's angels. She was stripped of her heavenly appearance - mainly, her wings. As a warning of what any transgressions against God would entail, all of the Seraphim Felis Cattus were stripped of their heavenly wings and were given leathery bat-like (or what humans see as "demon") wings in their stead. This was to not only humble the angels, but to give them a terrifying appearance to humans so that no human would worship their kind again.
Kiddiss traveled the world as its borders were stretched by the ever outreaching humans moved further and further from the birthplace of civilization. She settled in the land of the Celts, and not much is known of her whereabouts since then. It is speculated that Kiddiss was granted astral travel for her dedication and unwaivering service, and she has traveled to different galaxies and possibly different realms, watching over the feline species of the places unknown to humans.
I haven't really developed her further than that. I would like to develop this character further, if possible. No, she does not have and deity-like powers, so no "God-modding" issues to worry about. She does have psionic abilities, but just stuff similar to what you would find in table-top RPing, as well as the ability to communicate telepathiclu with all animals. As a Guardian, she is fully battle trained and tested, which may be another reason she was granted astral travel. Her story has many possibilities that may unfold.

My other character is newer, and I've never shared her with anyone. Her name is Ki'ahrah (KEE-ah-rah).
Ki'ahrah is based in a SciFi universe loosely based on The Chronicles of Riddick, with more of a Star Trek make up of the planetary and government systems.
Her mother is from the planet Furia - and escaped whilst pregnant with Ki'ahrah. Due to some prophecy that said a Furian child would bring down the overlord of another race (in Riddick, it's the Necromongers), all babies born within a three year time frame (around the time Riddick was born), were being slaughtered. Ki'ahrah's mother was an unwed teenager and had no way to shelter her unborn child, so she fled her home world and found refuge with the secret society of the Glassah. They took her in because of her Furian origins- a race of warriors who destroyed their own civilization. The Glassah knew that the child to be born could be molded into one of their greatest assassins. The mother started training, honing her own abilities, while she was 2 months pregnant. The philosophy was that such training would make the child even more powerful. The mother and child had powers similar to the Jedi in Star Wars (heightened reflexes, as well as psionics such as empathic powers, heightened intuition, telekinesis, some mind control & mind reading- to an extent), as well as exceptionally high IQs, so they were considered a great asset to the Glassah.
She's humanoid with no visable physical characteristics that differ from humans. She was given over to the secret society as an infant in order to train her entire life to become an elite assassin with special skill sets that I haven't completely fleshed out as of yet.
She is age 32, but her ageless physical characteristics and ability to change her demeanor allow her to change her appearance from as young as 16 to as old as late 40's. Her basic physical appearance is similar to Kiddiss: 5'7", 123lbs, slightly curvy athletic build, red hair, green eyes which shine in low light (similar to Riddick's- in my universe, all Furians have this trait)... overall, she looks like an Earth human of Celtic ancestory.

She is currently the Commander of a large space cruiser that is essentially a space orphanage. The orphanage is actually a front for a training facility similar to the one in which she grew up. While the majority of the children are orphans of military personnel, a handful of children on board are not orphans - they are chosen at birth to be part of the training program. Due to the fact that the actual orphans are the children of important military personnel, the security on the ship is the highest level. This is why Ki'ahrah was given command of the ship. Only the highest level of military know about the training facility aboard the ship and its connection to the Glassah. The government for which Ki'ahrah works is not aware of it's existence nor it's ties to the main branch where Ki'ahrah was raised and trained. The military feels the need to keep this secret from the government bureaucrats "for their own good".
She never met her father, but was close to mother, who was also a master assassin, and was involved with Ki'ahrah'a training. She has a step-father and younger half-sister. The sister does not have the psionics of Ki'ahrah and her mother, but she does have an empathic bond with her mother and sister, as well as feeling the presence of others "like her", which she does not feel with her father. She is unaware of her mother and sister's non-Earth origins. She also has an extremely high IQ and exquisite reflexes. She was a star on the school's gymnastics team, as well as one of the leaders in the Junior Pilot Program sponsored by the government's Space Program.
Their mother was killed in what the government deemed a car accident - but the Glassah confirmed was murder, most likely of a political nature due to her mother's high ranking office in the government. Her little sister ran away from home whilst on a school field trip to a science lab space station, shortly after the mother died. The sister, at age 11, reportedly stole a small shuttle from the space station and headed into the Neutral Zone. It was first thought that she was kidnapped, as this happened shortly after their mother died- but Ki'ahrah found a secret message left solely for her by her sister clearly stating that the girl had run away, with a few details as to why. Ki'ahrah is determined to capture, torture, and kill her step-father. However, like her mother, he is a high ranking government official, and her superiors will not allow it unless she can find her sister to verify the claims that the step father was involved with the death- and abuse of the younger sister. The sister is now age 18, and no clue as to her whereabouts has surfaced. Ki'ahrah believes that her sister may have been murdered by agents under her step-father, but can still feel traces of her sister- a bond that all Furians share.

I have much more information about this OC and her family's background written in a journal - but I have no clue where that journal is packed.
This is my "backup" character that I can use if Kiddiss is too advanced to use as a learning character (but, Kiddiss is my primary choice).

**MORE INFO ABOUT ME, PERSONALLY**

A few things you should probably know if you are considering taking me on as your RP pupil.
--> I do most of my internet on my phone. I live in an extremely rural area that is primarily retirees who aren't computer savvy. Because of that, the likelyhood of us EVER getting high speed internet is extremely slim. My phone is only a 3G, and due to my location, it often drops down to a "1x" or drops my internet altogether. This can be very frustrating for both me and anyone with whom I am conversing.
--> I have severe Fibromyalgia. In case you are not familiar with the illness, it is a pain and fatigue based illness (but there's a full menu of different symptoms that one may experience with the disease, and I hit the jackpot- I've got most of the symptoms). This means 2 things: 1. I am on many medications, which means I am "out of it" on a regular basis. Since I am using my phone for internet, I am able to be online whilst stuck in bed (*YaY!*). But, it also means that I can go days at a time without going online because I simply hurt too badly to sit and thumb type my posts, or I'm simply too exhausted to do it. What may be a simple, everyday task for most people can be extremely taxing on me. TRANSLATION: I'm not the most reliable when it comes to sticking to a schedule.
--> I have a rare form of arthrits called Sjögren's Syndrome (on top of the Fibromyalgia). A few things about this. The reoccurring thing is that I take an oral chemotherapy drug (Methotrexate) one day a week that makes me sick (nausea) for anywhere from 1.5 days to 3 days a week. I take medication to help with the nausea, but it makes me sleep. I try to stay on a schedule of taking my Methotrexate on Sunday nights so that I know what days I am most likely to be "off" (usually all day Monday through Tues evening- but it sometimes lasts through Weds night). The unpredictable thing is that the arthritis, which is in most of my joints, can keep me from being able to type, thus keeping me offline. This doesn't happen often- but it is a possibility to keep in mind.
--> I have six cats, one of whom is terminally ill (see posts above). My cats always take precedence over internet time. TRANSLATION: My cats come first. When my ill cat, Sassy, passes away (according to the vet, it could be any day now), I am not sure how I will react. I may stay offline for several days, or I may completely immerse myself in the RP to dull the pain.

I'm telling you this all up front so that you know what to expect if you decide to take me on as a pupil. I just thought it was fair to warn you :3

REQUESTED FORMAT OF TUTELAGE
Okay, I know some people think I am taking this a bit far for learning (actually, re-learning) how to RP online.
It's actually more than that. It's allowing me to ease back into the whole online RP experience. I had a couple of horrifying experiences on Gaia, my first avatar site and first online RP site (outside of semi-RP on IRC... which is WAY different from message boards).
I haven't even attempted RPing since 2006. I'm scared. There. I said it. I fell off the horse and broke my butt, and I'm afraid of doing it again.

So, here is how I would like to categorize the tutoring:
(PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A SCHOOL-THEMED ROLE PLAY. I AM LOOKING FOR MATURE ROLE PLAY- THIS BREAKDOWN IS JUST TO EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL I NEED TUTORING DONE IN AN ACADEMIC FASHION).

**Kindergarten: My first tutor. Help me become oriented in the world of online RP. I have forgotten EVERYTHING I may have known in the past, so I will need help with the extreme basics (Example: what is "God-Modding" or "Deus ex Machina" {however you spell it} when it comes to RPing? I'll want examples. When is it appropriate to be OOC? What's a good length for an RP post? I'm a Text Waller, so I'll need help with knowing what is too much, and conversely, what is too little per post. **These are just a few examples of what I feel I need to know to get started in online RP).

Run a check on that number of accounts you can have there, Whisper. I believe the number is three total, a main and 2 mules. Also, posting between mules is alright so long as it doesn't conflict with the regular posting rules. As far as mules go, they are still considered the same 'user' so double posting is allowed, as per usual but not triple.


As an rper, I think you're taking this a little overboard there, Kiddiss. I started with ADnD when it came to role play and moved onto online and such relatively quickly. It's all more or less the really, baring "house rules" so to speak, and what each lead or rp group decides will be the way they will play. I've seen enough variety in character requirements and story stuff that I don't really think there is a proper way to roleplay.

@Chocobo: How about we stick with something a little more basic than romance to start with.

@Quiet: Um, I guess the best way to describe why am being so AR about this is not so much the time lapse since I RP'd IRL, and not so much the fear of the transition from RL to online (although those ARE factors); the biggest factor is how scarred I am from the treatment I received on Gaia when I tried to RP there. I swear, that site is a magnet for complete assholes, into which some good people get sucked- then sucker punched, then kicked repeatedly when they are down. So, getting back into online RP for me is like a person who was thrown off a horse the first time trying to ride, and is trying to muster up the courage to get back on that horse 6 years later.

I'm afraid that my "quirky" (read=weird & misunderstood) sense of humor, sarcasm, and extreme mood swings may anger people... and the last thing I want to do is piss people off (I'm REALLY good at doing that). I don't want to alienate myself just as I'm settling in. I want to have fun here, and most likely make Tris my new online home. I'm just really nervous about screwing up.
I tried to make light conversation in another thread, and commented on how I perceived the "attitudes" and/or attributes of people's avis, and some people got offended. I was paying them complements, and they thought otherwise. Their reactions made me want to retreat back to my comfortable lurker mode- but I have forced myself to stay active because I want to be a part of the community.
It may seem overboard to some people, what I'm doing in this thread- but I'm nervous and I'm looking for guidance. I just don't want to fuck up and piss people off... and I know that there are people who take their RPing very seriously (no, I don't know who here on Tris is like that, I just know that there are people like that in the world of RP.

Also, because of my illnesses, I'm not going to be able to be the most reliable of RP partners. There WILL be days, sometimes many days in a row, that I simply won't have the energy or I'm in too much pain to concentrate on RPing. That's something for which dedicated RPers may persecute me. I can't promise to stick to any rigid schedule.

I hope you can understand and respect my reasons for doing what I am doing.

P.S. your avi is terrifying - in an awesome way!! (Please don't get pissed off at me for saying that - I totally mean it as a complement. If I'm not phrasing it right or whatever, I'll just stop posting what I personally think of people's avis and keep it to myself. Also I would be delighted to help you out my Kitteh mommeh! Everyone rps in different fashions so its hard to "Teach" you how to rp because everyone has their own style about them but one thing I find that helps is the size of the post for one. I mean if you are reading a one line post how are you supposed to reply with anything longer then that?

I mean give a person something to work with and in the end that is going to be your greatest help. Its simple really I think. Mind talk as well as descriptive actions can stretch the post out to any length really. But the best way to learn is to do!

It sucks that you feel you need to be so restrictive about what you say but I can understand where you are coming from. I think as long as you bring any concerns you may have about rping, such as your schedual and possibly not being around much, that should be a good start.
