Default doing drugs and not getting the promised high   #1
so i have a bad back as some of you know and after a week of pain so bad i would spend my time between popping ibuprofen and gasping in corners i went to the er to find out i have been lifting and stocking merch on a strain, they gave me a refil of my muscle relaxants and a painkiller only the relaxants are not helping much and keep me so drowsy i cannot function and the painkillers are ineffective

my question is, should i stop taking them? i was scheduled to take a dose of each about an hour ago but i've only just woke up and i hurt the same as if i did not take them at all. i get to go to orthopedics tomorrow morning but that is two doses away

We're all mad here.
If they have no side effects that bother you, I'd say keep taking them so that you can look at the doc and honestly say that you did take them as instructed and that they aren't working for you. At least you'd know for sure.

It's possible the pills may have just stopped working for you. My tolerance for some pills is pretty high. I used to take sleeping pills and I stopped because I had to double the dose after only a week or so, and I take a lot higher dose of my transplant drugs than my cousin, who had his transplant only three months after me. It's possible your body may have adapted to what you are taking now and you may need something new.

I have learned that you do need to take pain pills as scheduled and not wait until you start hurting, because it's more effective to stop the pain from happening than to deal with it once things start hurting. The pain also creates unneeded stress on your body.

.____. They shouldn't be giving really bad stomach cramp eh. You might just need a different pain pill made from different things, I'm willing to bed there is something in it causing that reaction from your stomach, it was the same with the first pain killers they gave me for my knee.

And what Quiet said sounds right to me, I took my pain killers for my knee for over two years and they had to switch them every 7-8 months cause my body got a high tolerance from them and stopped working to over ride the pain.

Ahh, I completely missed where you said sensitive. Have you asked if there is something you can take with it to reduce the side effects?

(Sorry, Canada, which holiday?) owo may be a good question to ask, they might have like suppressors or something for you to take to make that go away.

In my opinion, it's hard to say. You should take the pills because some doctors will say, "Well how do you know if it didn't work if you didn't take them long enough for them to take effect." But at the same time, the cost of the side effects you're having, it may be better to not take them. As Nexess and Quiet have both suggested, it's best to talk to your doctor about taking a different medicine. SO it's good you have a scheduled appointment.

Nexess, probably Thanksgiving.

No, Thanksgiving was on Thursday, then Friday was Black Friday, the day for shopping if that's your thing. It's not all weekend but most places kept their holiday hours regardless that it is now Sunday. Plus, not all places are open Sunday.

Edit: For example, the pharmacy I get my medicine from is not open Saturday and Sunday. Only Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm.

basically what chi said, here everything is all mushed up, thursday was a national holiday, friday was an observance holiday, saturday here carries from friday because it is such a big moneymaker and on sunday every other service is closed including hospitals so unless i am going to the er again there is nothing for me until monday(if it is not food or retail or gas it is closed on a sunday or else has exceedingly reduced hours)

I've only been on painkillers once-wisdom teeth. I didn't take them after a day or two...because they made me nauseous until I passed out...and there was no pain (I later found out) long as I kept it clean.

I hope they can do something for you...around here they might say you're screwed .-.
