Default Your boss   #1
Do you love or hate your boss? Or is it a love-hate type of thing? I'm just curious.

Personally I don't care for my store manager 75% of the time but sometimes she's alright. The assistant manager I /like/ 75% of the time, he's really nice and encouraging. I always say hi to someone when they walk up to me, even if I've spent all day with them and they walk up to me repeatedly. So whenever he'd get near, I always said "hi" and smiled, and he always smiled back. When he got close enough he laughed and said that no matter how many times I do that, he always smiles. I thought that was really sweet. <3

Sooo sometimes my bosses drive me nuts, but at the same time, most of the time I can at least tolerate them or even really like them.

Sooo what about you guys?

I have multiple boss'. The way my store works is that every six months the managers shift departments they head...so... My first manager I loved, I still go to her if I have issues because she'll listen to me and do something about it. My second manager...assumed I knew how to do EVERYTHING, and while I like being thought competent I occasionally need an actual person in authority. My current manager....is a moron. He's never done retail, he doesn't like to take constructive criticism and won't listen to us despite the fact that we've been doing the job longer than he has. All in all, I can't wait for August(the end of his six months). We've also butted heads a LOT, but then I hear things like 'he has plans for [Fey]' from other managers and I get scared O.O
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

I love most of my bosses, they seem okay. One of my direct coworkers (one of the other maintenance workers on day shift, there's 4 of us) is a self centered jerk who thinks he is better than all of us for, get this, being an extra in a movie. xD
Because of it he's only working two days a week :P Yet he still complains how OMG "Only I ever do ANYTHING around here I'm sick of doing everything myself!" Even though once someone else shows up he does nothing, wont clean the restrooms and basically goes off shining random surfaces that don't need it.

Like Fey bosses do a rotation thing. Just talking about assistant managers. The first two I met were really nice. Never really got to know one of them that much, but the other lady she seems to care about those under her since she remembers me despite my only being around for about a week before the rotation and said happy birthday even though she covers a differnt shift than I work.

My two current ones...well one of them I like more. She's always very stressed out but leaves me alone to my work, only occasionally having to ask me to try to speed up in time to get something else that really really needs to be done. The guy is um...well a good manager in a sense. He knowns what he wants to get done, doesn't stress as much and is very encouraging. Unfortunately he's a micro manger. He is CONSTANTLY throwing tasks at me for me to do since I was the most efficient. I've taken to slowing down and keeping any conversation with him short and moving away to work as soon as possible. He's not bad but I CAN'T STAND his walking over to check my progress every 30 minutes! How many times have I had to remind myself to stay calm? How many times did I have to supress tears of anger? -sighs- we'd get along rather well if he'd understand I don't like being watched constantly.

Ju, unfortunately, that style of management is what all the companies are pushing for now. It's why I gave up being a manager. I haaaaaaaaate going to check on people every 30-60 minutes. I believe that if you're given a task I shouldn't have to check in on you, you should get it done, and if you have a problem YOU'LL find ME. Seriously, drove me up the wall.

I suppose it could be worse where I work...we have one manager that talks to my cleavage, despite the fact that I wear a shirt that closes up to my neck! Arguable, he does it to all the girls in my department, but I'm the only one that apparently is bothered by it. I live in terror of him getting my department next rotation....
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

Ugh really? They don't trust their workers at all. They want drones, but since they know lowlies like myself probably will fail at that they encourage managers to be hovering over our shoulders. NO SELF-SUFFICIENCY? grrr >=[

At least on that note I would've enjoyed having you as a manager =) It's sad they lose someone competent as you to some goals that sound so good on paper.

As for that guy....yeah ;>.>
I'll hope for you too.

My boss is my best friend. We both worked for the company many years and she not my boss in the beginning. She worked at another location and happen to come into my store when I worked in the mall. She was manager, then demoted when her store closed and she became a traveler until she got a store. When she got the store, I came over shortly after as asst manager. We don't treat each other badly and there is three of us who are close. However, one girl (who my boss knew prior to working at the store) became lack luster in her job and she just hates working BECAUSE she lost hours. It was no one's fault. I came back from maternity and we both lost the hours we original had before. I continued to work, she decided it was not worth it and in the end, she lost most of her hours. She is lazy too. She wants a new job but refuses to find another one. So now my boss has to figure what to do with her since she cannot fire her without District approval and the District HATES firing people because the company HATES given unemployment.

Neko-chan Nya Nya~
A long time ago I worked at Waldenbooks and I adored each of my bosses. They were understanding and attentive to needs, and were willing to negotiate when things got rough. Then, later I worked at Wal-mart and it just was downhil from the moment I started. There were a few good bosses but for the most part they were as Jurinjo said, they checked on my work too often and gave me more tasks before any reasonable person could have finished the prior task. It was just a demoralizing place to work. Perhaps other places are different but it seems like all retail is becoming the same, employ only part timers then expect you to do full time work in a part time shift.

Serra that's who I work for too xD
I have a coworker who came over from Food Lion and says it is definitely better working for Walmart.

Just earlier this week I was expected to run 10 Pallets of Juice and Water x.x I dont' know the area, and my boss by know has to know I have perfectionistic issues (probably not a word). But I ran 8, and a support manager turned one of them into a feature. Not bad for someone who doesn't know that aisle =D

ps aforementioned manager though has been leaving me to my own devices lately. So I do give him credit there for that. Makes me much more happier even if I don't finish my tasks like they expect C:

I adore my boss. She's one of those people who knows how to separate work and play and will try her hardest to keep things fair and unstressful in a job that is just teeming with stress.

I do admit that I think she sometimes plays favorites though (whether knowingly or unknowingly, I don't know).
