Need Some Advice - Health Related - Long Winded | #1
So while I am the all knowing Glitch of Fortune . . .
I've been having a little issue lately and I am not sure what to do. I have Marfan Syndrome. It's a not well known genetic disease that 1 in 5000 people have (although like 90% are not diagnosed). Sometime in my teenage years I began experiencing this pains in my chest. I was originally told I had mitral valve prolapse and that the pains were just from my heart regurgitating a bit. On my last visit though (2 years ago) they told me that I actually didn't have that. One time the pains were so intense I thought I was having a heart attack and my chest was making such a loud suction cup noise when I laid on my side that I couldn't sleep. I was panicked so we went in and they told me "i don't see anything wrong. The suction cup sound is just because you know your heart and your lungs are sticky." I haven't had really any abnormal issues for awhile but all this week I keep getting this tiny stabbing pain around where my heart is (but also my lung!). It lasts for about 2 seconds and then goes away for a few hours. I am hesitant to go to the doctor because I don't want to just be told it's nothing again. (granted i really hope its nothing) I tried asking a marfan syndrome support group but they blow everything so out of proportion. . . "go go go never take chances!" But I'm like. . . every other time it's been nothing. Waste of a trip, waste of money. I haven't told my boyfriend about the pains because he has expressed to me in the past he doesn't want to end up with somebody whose crippled and has already said he has some concerns about my ability to manage my migraines in the future. I will say the little pain is always in the exact same spot. Kind of like somebody is poking me with a needle. Right now though, while writing this, it's happened like 3 times. SO I guess, do you think I should wait a bit and see if it stops? Should I just go even if it's going to expensive to see the doctor? Should I suck it up and tell Brady? I feel like I don't have anyone to talk to about it and that's largely why I am writing this. ![]()

If only for your peace of mind, I think you should probably go.
--That is, I think if you'll feel better, less stressed, and it helps your mental state you should probably go.

Go. Tell the doctor observing you about your entire medical history regarding your heart issues. Tell the doctor you can't accept "it's nothing" for an answer. Be clear that you want to know what's wrong with you and, if possible, you want to get it treated.
Be persistent, be patient, be assertive, but be polite. You ABSOLUTELY need to tell your boyfriend. You do NOT want to get yourself stuck in a relationship with someone that doesn't care enough about you to be able to handle your problems. Your partner in a relationship needs to accept you for who you are, and if you have to pretend that things are different than they really are, you're opening yourself up for a really bad time. Go, go and tell them because if you went to the ER with this we would be dragging your ass into the back, hooking you up to a monitor and probably pumping you full of meds. Even if it is just a random muscle spasm it could cause a lot of problems with your condition.
Your boyfriend though, that isn't right to state that he doesn't want to be with you because of your condition. It isn't a choice that you made.

Well I wasn't trying to say he didn't want to be with me - it was just something he said before we started dating and he knows about my condition and it was a worry for him. I'm sure he would listen to me now that we've been together for two years but the little voice in the back of my head hasn't forgotten he said that and I'm a dweller.
I have an appointment scheduled next month but it's just a first appointment sicne it'll be my first time seeing a doctor in Oregon. All my prior doctors are in Idaho. Just blah D: on the plus side it's not as bad today! Somebody suggested (i am going to botch this spelling) costochondritis. ![]()

I've had a scare in the past thanks to costochondritis. (I didn't know that's what it's CALLED until, but I had a persistent sharp low-grade pain on the left side of my chest that lingered for several days and the description matches what my doctor said.) I don't think that's what you're dealing with based on the description -- that wouldn't cause a small localized pain for a few seconds every few hours; it would be a more continuous pain.

Go.
This is happening with my roommate. It started out as migraines, then it turned into her passing out at work. The ER said it was Malaise the first two times she went to the ER two years ago. Around the 4th time she saw a doctor it was seizures endued by stress. Flash forward to today, the last time she passed out at work she stopped breathing. She's still alive. But i worry for the day when I wake up and she doesn't. Do what Coda says before it becomes even more serious. If they don't think its anything ask them to do heart test, see if your valves are working or if you have any other problems.

If the doctor won't take you seriously, find one that will. Your health is more important than pre-conceived prejudices about how women are exaggerating things.
I use She/Her and They/Them pronouns.

I also forgot to add that it could be some sort of pneumonia or bronchitis.

Bronchitis IS plausible, as is some sort of spasmodic disorder.
