Deep Frying | #1 | |
For those of you who cook, do you guys deep fry inside or outside of the house?
For me, I like to deep fry inside of the house. Simply because it's easier than going outside and doing it. Especially in the middle of winter! The smell of fryer oil is worth it, but my husband and roommate hate the smell. I get complaints such as: "This isn't a KFC." The roommate still complains when I use the plug in fryer with a lid(Which is kind of funny considering it's his fryer). Guys, what do I do to keep the peace? :o .___. No. Unless it's like a turkey fryer or something....I mean, go to mcdonalds or kfc, they fry all their stuff inside. As long as you take care of your equipment, it should be fine....of course freak accidents happen.
But with turkey frying....take it outside far away from the house....that causes a lot of fires a year...people either trying to do it inside....or not being far enough away. I guess it also depends on the fryer and what you use to fry with, like lard, vegetable oil, etc.

When they say it's safer outside, they're talking about frying really big things like turkeys. For frying little stuff like french fries and chicken nuggets, there's a lot less splash risk and a lot less hot oil involved, so inside is fine.
I prefer the top on most of the time just to avoid getting a mist of oil all over everything. Games by Coda (updated 4/8/2025 - New game: Marianas Miner)

Well, with deep frying you shouldn't get a mist of oil everywhere. I haven't at least XD
Now I'm getting hungry D:

It never fails for me. Whenever I'm frying, whether pan-frying or deep-frying, after everything's done and cooled off, there's a super-fine mist of oil on the surfaces around where I was cooking (especially the vent hood). It's so fine that it doesn't even show up right away, but only after a few days when dust starts sticking to it.

I get that mist as well. I should probably clean that up tomorrow...
I got a splatter screen recently so hopefully that helps with the oil spraying everywhere. .___. Buying: NATMQuesting: Event Items 13/19 Miniature Fairy Wings, Immortal Worlds, Eye Sore Current Funds:0 Au. Updated: 12/16/16 08:55 PM

Pan frying, I get it all the time, but never deep frying...maybe it's because my fryer is ancient and so you don't have to fill it as high to cook or anything? Idk.

What kind of oil are you using in your fryer? My dad uses soy bean oil and when he does, it doesn't have the smell of KFC.

I just use plain ole vegetable oil. Hmm, I'll have to try this soybean oil.

Deep frying is hazardous exclusively in regards to larger ingredients such as Turkey. This is due to the potential for fires and injuries caused by missteps such as overfilling the fryer. There can even be explosive results.
My family decided against frying a turkey last Thanksgiving due to these risks. We rarely fry in my house and when we do it's breakfast components so pan frying with vegetable oil is how we roll. ~ Red Rum She Said ![]()
