Lost her trust once more | #1
Last night my mom panicked because she notice the flea med that I gave to our cat was on the shoulder blade and not on the back of the neck. Earlier that day I put on the flea med but our cat wiggled while I was putting it on her. I didn't notice this until last night then out of the blue my mom began to cry and said that our cat is going to die because she thought the flea med was poisonness and blamed me for not putting it on the right spot. I told her not to panic and went to find the instruction if there was something on there that would help.
Of course around the same time my dad wanted to know what was going on and I told him it wasn't his business and to get involve. I returned with the instruction, read it and it said it wouldn't hurt our cat but my mom didn't believe me and went to the computer to find out more about the flea med and if it was poisonness or not. She found a site and panicked again I looked at it and told her that our cat didn't show any of the signs that was shown on the site this made her really upset and me angry. The next I knew we were at each others throats and I lost it, I didn't know what to do my mom wasn't listening to me at all. In the end I left the room still mad and upset. A few min later my mom tried to call me on my phone and I told her to leave me alone because I was still upset and angry. She came down stairs and told me she got a hold of a vet and told her it wasn't that bad and that the flea med won't kill our cat because it is non toxic if ingested but to check on our cat just in case something happens. I was a bit relieve there but why do I still feel like my trust with my mom was taken away once more and was ripped into piece? And I don't know how to fix this anyone out there can help?

wow thats terrible, not the cat thing but the way your mum reacted, everyone knows that flea stuff is NOT poison otherwise you wouldn't be allowed to put it on cats!! i'm not surprised you don't trust her anymore, i wouldn't either after that, i'd say just ignore her for afew days if you can, don't apologize to her, shes the one in the wrong.. make her come to you

Actually flea medication IS poison, or else how could it kill fleas?
But "the dose makes the poison" -- a dose big enough to kill a flea is far too small to affect something as large as a cat. A dose big enough to kill a few hundred fleas might make the cat sick but it wouldn't be likely to kill it. Games by Coda (updated 4/8/2025 - New game: Marianas Miner)

I'm glad everything turned out alright, but I agree with Vixie that your mom's reaction is a bit over-done. I don't think this is big enough a fuss for you to lose your mom's trust that easily. At least, I hope it's not the case because if it is, it's pretty stupid. ;/ *huggle katyasha*
