Warhammer 40k | #1 | ||
Thought I'd try to see who here plays the game.
I am refering to the actual tabletop Warhammer, not any video games. So what army do you play? What armies do you like and dislike and why? How big of an army do you have? Just say whatever you want about the game.

I play Tyranids. I love the swarmy bugs and their monsterous beasts running around eating everything.
I have a decent sized army; I could probably get away with playing a 4k point battle. Favorite unit is the tervigon. I love how it can spawn new units as well as buff existing ones.

I've never played the tabletop game, or read any of the books, but I know a fair bit about the setting from reading vs. debates online (a hobby of mine. >_>). I love the setting, just for how ridiculously awesome it is. Space Marines are my favorite army, just the whole super-soldier/religious fanatic concept I find at once amusing and terrifyingly cool.

What does the 40k stand for? I've never played it myself but my cousin was big into miniatures and he would make battlefields and he painted beautiful miniatures. He had powder grass and sand that he would put on the bases as well. I remember when I was a child looking as some ruins that he made with his painted miniatures all over it for a game he was playing with a friend. Neat looking stuff.
There's a Games Workshop store not far from where I live but there never seems to be many people in there. They sell almost exclusively warhammer products.

Games Workshop owns Warhammer.
And 40k stands for 40,000. As in, In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only war. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

Ah. How dramatic. That explains the futuristic bit. I wonder if they were considering if the world ever get to that point. Makes me laugh a little when I recall that the Transformers cartoon takes place in the year 2005.

40k thrives on being over-dramatic. And rule of cool. And just being insanely ridiculous and awesomely epic at the same time.
This is the setting with the God-Emperor of Mankind, by the way, in case you didn't know. Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

Oh the God-Emporor... the reason I play Tyranids. 'Cause the eat up everything including the idiots who worship a dead man :P
Sorry Space Marine fans, but I HATE the Imperium. By the way, the Tyranids, for those interested, are a practically endless swarm of bug like creatures from outside the galaxy who are all linked into one conciousness, who's only goal is to absorb the biomass of this galaxy, (that's us) and than move on to the next.

The Tyranids are basically who Blizzard ripped off to come up with the Zerg, right? And they do it much better (the whole world-infesting thing) from what I've heard.

Exactly. Except there is no leader creature like the Overmind or Queen of Blades. All of the big creatures are linked into one mind, with the smaller ones becoming linked while nearby (Less brain matter is needed that way.)

It's not an entity, it's an entire race, as far as I know. Because that's how 40k does things. Everything is over the top. :p

Ah, so Borg action but without the massive technological hookups?
