Also, does it depend on the amount of text per post?

Yes, it depends on the amount of characters in your post. Also, it caps out at fifty gold. So a single post can easily rocket you up towards whatever goal it is you have.

No, it doesn't go down. Since it's based by amount of text you write, you can get up to fifty aurum. If you got less that just means you didn't post enough to cap it out.
