Dragon Storm
Err...not sure about the "intelligent design" bit - largely because most things considered "designed" are random. But, there is a divine element to the universe. Even Chaos has equations/models.
It is a mystery that even if we wander & grow for 10,000 more years, we won't have it explored. And lifeforms, we little balls of sentient self-organizing Gibbs free energy-containing molecules, are fascinating.

Everything has a story to it in my mind. And a little bit of motion.

No no, Prophets of Science Fiction. Different show. Here's the IMDB. It looks at an author's work and life, the concepts they brought in, and where we stand now in modern science relative to it. The episode on P.K. Dick dealt in part with fabricated memories, like in "Total Recall." It's a fascinating show.

Never actually heard of Masters of Science Fiction. Looked it up just now.

Bladerunner is also one of my favourite films. I consider the film and book essentially two different entities. I think Scott chose to focus on different aspects of the world than show in the novel. Personally, I like book Deckard more than movie Deckard, and movie Roy better than book Roy.

Lawtan: There is a thought out there that there is no designer, that energy can create itself. I'm sure I am not explaining it right.

Quiet: I feel like I should watch the movie and read the book afterward or vice versa.

Trystan: knowledge is power and you get knowledge by reading therefore... hahaha

I looked up Blade Runner on Amazon to see if I could get a copy and apparently there is a lot of division over which is better, the theatrical release or the Director's Cut. I saw the Director's cut, so not I'm curious as to the theater one. I've generally heard that the DC was preferred.

well, the theatrical version was more than likely designed to fit in the 90-minute run time, so stuff had to be cut out and was replaced by a voice-over. when people saw the director's cut, (which i have, but don't think i saw it? that's bad, i know) and realised it didn't have the voice-over from Dekkard, it was more showing, not telling. the versions are different, i'm sure.

*digs up my DVDs* i have 4 versions on my DVDs...The Final Cut (Ridley Scott's definitive version), the US Theatrical Version, the International Theatrical version (which i have not seen) and the 1992 Director's Cut. i know for certain i've seen the US theatrical version though, and i really liked what i saw. =)

The '92 directors cut I figure is the one I've seen. I don't recall seeing one with a voice over, but that was definitely one of the sticking points. That, and the bit with the unicorn that no one seems to understand. I haven't looked into that detail. I was watching it for a report I think, though I can't remember what I was writing it on.

i believe the one with the voice-over was the original US theatrical version.

Yeah, there is a brief dream scene with a Unicorn. I always assumed it related to Gaff and his origami so far but wasn't totally sure of the significance. I should look it up, I'm sure there are papers on it. I can't recall if it was in the book. I liked Gaff and his origami.

I like the theatrical release with the voice over. I also like the other versions. I have not seen the Final Cut.

The unicorn scene at the end. Deckard had implanted memories since he is a replicant. There are a lot of theories on the unicorn, I need to watch the movie again. Haven't watched it in a while.

Is he a replicant though? That part was always ambiguous. I actually never noticed it coming up in either book or film until I bumped into people musing on whether or not he was or wasn't.

He was totally a replicant. The biggest clue was when he has all the pictures of his ancestors on the piano. They all had pictures of their families. It helped them "remember" the implanted memories. I'm pretty sure that Ridley Scott mentioned that also, that Deckard was a replicant.

Replicant: Read this.

Yeah me too! All this talk has newly intrigued me about the movie and its themes.
