Long songs. | #1 | ||
What's everyone's opinion on lengthy songs? I personally love them, half my library is songs over 10 minutes. It makes playing music at random nice, as I don't end up switching artists every 3 to 4 minutes most of the time. There's also the epic factor, which I like, as long as the length isn't just a gimmick.

I dunno, it has to be a goooooood song, otherwise I tend to get tired of the constant repeating of chorus' and just skip to the next thing. That being said, I do have a few long songs I can easily listen too, but nothing close to 10 minutes! I know my attention span isn't that long, ever.
I've gone to look for myself, if I should return before I get back keep me here.

hmm, when I was younger we used to listen to songs that were about 20 mins each. We only listen to them during long car rides. XD but now a days most people consider a 5-7 min song very long. I think the longest song I have in my library now is a 20 mix of Sandstorm.

I don't mind longer songs.
Avenged Sevenfold and Metallica have longer songs, and I don't mind them. The longest one I know of currently is Save Me by Avenged Sevefold. It's about 11 minutes. x . x

A lot of my favorite music is from the 60s and 70s and they were pretty into the whole "super long, experimental" music trend. I've no doubt that drugs have something to do with it.
My favorite "long song" (at eight minutes and 32 seconds) is Don McLean's "American Pie". If we're talking even longer, I'd have to go with Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (Two songs, split at 12 minutes, 31 seconds and 13 minutes, 40 seconds). Pink Floyd was really, really big on long songs.

Hmm. Except for classical music, I rarely actually find long songs. But the few I have heard, like "Eye of the Storm" by the Cruxshadows is epicly epic. C: It might sound as repetitive at first, but I enjoy each and every line. It's about 8 minutes. Or 7:40 something? I don't recall anymore.

I have a song in my itunes that is a bit over an hour long. it's a techno house mix thing.
I also have a CD by Menomena called "Under an Hour" that is basically one continuous song, split into three tracks, and the time totals about 58 minutes. I love it. I'm not always in the mood to listen to long songs, but most of the ones I have are interesting enough that it doesn't get tiresome listening to them. This signature intentionally left blank.

My longest is Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick, which is actually two 22-minute songs, but they're only split because of lack of space on the record when it was originally released, it's actually one song of 45 minutes. But it changes a lot throughout, so it doesn't get boring.
My favorite long song, though, is Death Come Near Me, by Draconian, 17 minutes of soul-freezing despair and anguish, slow and devastating. Perfect for sunny days. :p Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

I'm sure there are a lot that I like, but as with most music I can recognize the melody but couldn't for the life of me name the song or artist. My favorite long song is "The Island" by The Decemberists.

That reminds me of the end-theme from FF6, that incorporated each of the characters' themes while blending them together. I think that was like 20-something minutes long. Been forever since I last heard it.

Oh yeah, the Final Fantasy OSTs were fun. I used to have a program that would loop the songs like it does in the game. Good mood music. <3

Didn't know Don Maclean's American Pie was that long. That would make it among my favourite long songs too.
Probably one of the longest songs I've listened to was Knights of the 21st Century by Hammerfall, which I'm not really all that fond of. The songs in the longer end that I do like would be Bohemian Rhapsody and Ghost Love Score (Nightwish). I like Ghost Love score because of the it moves around from intruments to vocal and shifts tempo as it goes. EDIT: and go figure. As soon as I post that I have Elvenpath in my head.
