Default The Inn Between Universes - RP in Trispheeland   #1
Hello there! I've seen a lack of Trisphee RP, so why not eliminate that? Users appreciate RP. Plus, you can't have an event without a little RP...well, you can, but it's dreadfully boring business that way and you can't have that. This is quasi-canon, since we don't know much about the worlds and I doubt there are random inns that only sort of exist that occasionally kidnap people in canon. Until proven otherwise, I'm assuming your avatar is your character. OOC chatter is allowed, but please make an IC/OOC distinction very clear. There's no word requirement, but words are generally lovely, yes, except when they're not. Due to the magic properties of the end, everyone can understand each other regardless of language. Play nice, my lovelies! Or don't, that's cool too.

The Inn Between Universes
A tale about buildings and the people they just won't let go of.

Some in these three worlds are ruled by the progress of technology. The Quesarian queen, tyrant of the forest paradise, sits on a throne built from crystal-profits, while the Kalin humans are awash in toxic waste. Even the Alti’ui, pure and primitive as they try to be, are not immune because their existence, in addition to their very lovely wings, is defined by technology or, more accurately, their lack thereof.

Some in these three worlds are ruled by magic. The Athiyk know its value and power, while the Ascent Arco, masters of the elements, are shaped by it. It’s something many pursue, while others resent its impact on their lives.

Still others are ruled by gods. Some on Deivai whisper stories about moon-pale creatures with fierce eyes that serve an apathetic god, while others recite tales to their children about a people split by sand and water. So many people, regardless of origin, have fought and killed for divine and corrupt deities.

With that being said, there are a few places that don’t glitter with technology, aren’t formed by magic, and have absolutely nothing to do with gods. These are the places in between reality, the nonsensical stuffing between what exists and what doesn’t. Nothing is supposed to live here, but occasionally travelers pass through places they can’t quite explain when our worlds and the unexplained briefly overlap. Why? Perhaps these places get lonely.

Some of you have just woken up in a strange bedroom that, despite having every fixture you’ve ever wanted, just feels wrong, while others of you decided to take shelter for the night in an abandoned building that is suddenly completely different. Still others have just woken up at the fully-stocked (but what it’s stocked with is a mystery) bar and are likely wondering what exactly happened last night. There is no particular reasons why you’re here. You just are.

This little pocket of unreality likes to shape itself as an inn, though the layout is relatively simplistic in comparison to real inns. The upper section is comprised of a network of twisting halls and small but comfortable rooms. While the layout of these seemingly infinite halls will likely make perfect sense while you’re walking them, there is a good chance that you’ll later realize that you’ve passed the exact same rooms on separate floors and that your room is in a different place each time. The lowest floor is wide and open, comprised mainly of a completely empty lobby and a vast restaurant with an impressive bar. There are no waiters and the menus are blank, but if you venture into the kitchens, you’ll discover cans of what might be meat but could also be vegetable matter. They’re edible, but certainly not delicious.

If you pass through the wide doors, you’ll find yourself in a small courtyard. There’s a small pool of water like a moat and what’s probably a flagpole, but after a few feet, there is absolutely nothing; not air, not earth, not space, not anything. You probably don’t want to step out into this. Trust me, it won't end well.

So now that you’re here, what are you going to do? Are you going to look for answers or are you going to wait until you find yourself back in reality? It’s up to you.

Behel was normally a calm and collected man, but he normally didn’t wake up inside a strange building with no clue how he got there. The last thing he remembered was settling in to wait out the hot part of the day in one of the small shacks he set up in his stretch of the expansive Deivai desert. When he woke up, he found himself in a strange room and on further inspection of the strange inn, he felt he no longer was on his home planet at all.

So why? The Tangi man could offer no definite answer. Certainly, no one who knew him could say he wasn’t without enemies -you couldn’t hang around with poachers and water-thieves without a few distrustful glances every now and then- but as far as Behel knew, he hadn’t made anyone angry who was rich and determined enough to transport him off the planet. On the contrary, he liked to make friends in high places. Furthermore, as hard as he was trying to find a rich patron to fund a survey of the other planets’ technology, he never left the planet, so if he somehow made foreign enemies, he had no clue how that might have happened.

After exploring the halls for several minutes and peeking outside, he finally crawled into the bar. In a daze, Behel found his way to an empty bar stool and all but collapsed, yellow eyes, half-hidden as they were behind his dusty, scratched glasses, darting about like a scared animal. Perhaps animal as an apt comparison; after all, he was a Tangi, one of the desert planet’s beastmen. In his case, he took after a very spiny, very poisonous fish that lurked in the coastal shallows. From a distance, his skin looked as smooth as the Isilme he occasionally encountered far from their home, but up close it was evident that he was covered in small, gleaming scales occasionally punctuated by the odd red patch.

It was evident that he had changed out of his normally baggy, protective clothing to receive guests before waking up here. He wore a handmade black shirt of a very thin, very expensive material with trousers of a similar colour, though truthfully not much of them could be seen under the high boots swathed in tiny buckles and kid leather straps. Red gemstones -not as rare as he would like, but certainly pretty enough for him- glittered from his ears while his neck was decorated with a collar with gleaming studs and a large quartz pendant. Bronze rings gleamed from his clawed fingers, and his lips were painted a deep, dark red like the flowers that sprouted when the monsoons came. A string of coral beads decorated his forehead, gleaming bright against the carefully drawn spots of chalk-white makeup, and, with the help of wire and a whole lot of luck, held up the massive but quite light horns that made up his headdress. Overall, he thought he looked quite dashing, though Behel tended to think whatever cost the most to procure meant it was better. Still, fashion was the least on his mind at the moment.

What would he do now? What if whatever brought him here wanted to finish him off? With the long handled knife in its scabbard on his belt, right next to the trio of skulls, the spiny fins jutting from his wrists, (the ones near his ankles and the long dorsal fin along his back were carefully folded under his clothes and currently useless unless he stripped down), and a set of very sharp teeth, he felt well protected against the creatures he normally encountered in his homeland, but he was far from home. Fierce as he could be and poisonous too, he knew he was small at barely five feet and as far as he knew, every other place in the universe was stocked with creatures that wanted to eat him.

If he wasn’t certain that whatever this place was stocked with must be some sort of deadly poison, he’d pour himself a drink to assuage the panic bubbling up within. He’d never been this frightened in his life and nothing had even hurt him...yet

((I'll be refering to Espy as a guy here, although I haven't quite figured out what gender he is...-sweat-))

Espy groaned before blinking his eyes open. He was nicely sprawled against some barrels that reeked strongly of alcohol. He picked himself up and nearly fell flat on his face again; the nausea was overwhelming. No, it wasn't the smell of the barrels, but seemingly rather the effects of the spell he was sure he had been caught by a few moments ago.

He'd been sure he'd died right then and there; his slight knowledge of alchemy had proved to be no help whatsoever when matched against the powerful necromancy of a renowned sorcerer. Maybe it was time he checked his tongue.

Espy dusted himself off and sheathed his katars, then re-sprung them, suddenly recalling his surroundings. Eh, if I'm dead, this ain't too bad at all. But what if he wasn't? He'd need something to defend himself with, and the assassin was armed to the tooth.

A few steps brought him to the door, and he let himself into what he figured to be a pub of sorts.

((Well, this is certainly going to be interesting. I hope it's not dead, though. Live, RP, LIVE!!!))

Tanned limbs and white wings stretched outwards as Reyoki awoke from her slumber. After a moment, the Water Ascent's eyes blinked open and she sat up in the bed. For a moment, she merely stared around the strange room she was in, and then it dawned on her. "Wait, where am I?" she asked herself as she stood up off the bed.

Her only slightly wrinkled skirting fell into place at the motion, and she pinned up some of her flowing blue hair into a messy ponytail with her pearl hairpins. She found her boots and kodachi next to the bed and gazed around the room as she put them on, wondering how she'd found herself in such an odd place.

She had recently returned from a treasure hunting trip, she recalled. She'd gone out with her temp team one last time, then gone home and collapsed in bed without much care since she'd been so exhausted. At least, she'd thought that she'd gone home.

As Reyoki gazed about the room she realized that she must be at an inn of some sort what with the standard bed, nightstand, and small wardrobe. "Perhaps," she thought to herself, "I passed out sooner than I'd thought and one of the team took me to an inn."

Accepting this for the moment, she left the room and wandered downstairs to pay for the room and leave. She was surprised to find, however, that there were no inn staff to be found. Her tail flicked anxiously as she realized that she didn't recognize the inn at all. It certainly wasn't one of the inns from her town, and it wasn't one from any of the neighboring towns either.

She sat at the bar and gazed about with her sharp eyes. She had to figure out where she was, and she had to keep her guard up. One of the first rules about treasure hunting is to always keep your wits about you in strange places, and this inn was definitely a strange place.

Behel turned at the sudden intrusion, one hand immediately springing to touch the handle of his knife. One could never be too careful, especially in his current bizarre situation, and the intruder carried some sort of blade that he couldn't identify.

Still, the Tangi couldn't decide if he was a threat or not. Was this man the reason he was here or had been brought here like him? He wasn't even exactly sure what he was. Behel's gills flared out, a quite useless gesture on land but a nervous habit nonetheless. He hated uncertainty.

"May I assume," he started after a moment of hesitation. His voice was quiet and soft, but there was something predatory in it, as if he might at any point go for the neck. "that you are to finish whatever business you brought me here for or are you a man in a similar situation as I am?"

Perhaps it was due to panic or due to the fact that his attention was hyperfocused on the man, but he gradually become aware that there was a woman sitting at the bar. He cast a quick glance over one shoulder, eyes narrowing until they were hardly anything but slits. A woman, yes, but he hadn't a clue what she might be except that she certainly wasn't any Tangi woman. Isto perhaps? No, as strange a lot as they could be, he hadn't heard of one with hair the colour of water and wings like that.

Perhaps she was an alien then. That seemed the likeliest explanation. Behel's knowledge of the other planets was limited at best, since not many aliens ventured where he lived and the few Kalin residents he had met were reticent at best to reveal anything about the outside worlds. What lovely hairpins though. Perhaps he ought to acquire them for himself.

"Well then, three people here. Interesting."

Espy stared for a moment, then--

"If I was as mean as you make me out to be, why would you be in this lofty place? ...No, I'm stuck here as well," he added quickly, after remembering how strange he must look.

He had his usual outfit on, perfect for running and fighting, and a quick brush through his hair revealed how tousled it was. His tone was casual, even carefree, but something in his eyes spoke of fierceness.

Casting his gaze about, he noticed a lady sitting in the same room. She was beautiful, yes, but inhumanly so. The bright blue and flowing hair, the robe, the white wings and tail...The daughter of a dragon....?

These people didn't look too menacing...but he kept his katars unsheathed.

Reyoki's ears twitched at the sound of a voice, and she turned her head slightly towards it. She did not particularly like the threatening looks of the horned stranger at the other end of the bar, and she checked to be sure she could use her kodachi at a moment's need.

She glanced at the horned stranger from the corner of her eye, assessing him and guessing at his strength, abilities and intentions. "Well, those are some interesting gems he has there," she thought as she looked at his headdress. Could he be a Feryxonis? At first glance that was how he appeared, but upon closer inspection Reyoki could see that his looks were more wild than any Feryxonis she'd previously encountered. Maybe he was a foreigner?

Being from Quesaria, she had heard of the two other planets in the Planetary Alliance, but she hadn't seen many of the beings from the neighboring worlds, especially those from the newly recognized planet of Deivai. It struck her as odd, though, that she could understand his speech even though she was certain that the man was not from her world.

She could see that the other stranger was clearly a Feryxonis from her own planet. While it set her mind a bit at ease that there was someone from her own world in this strange place, she didn't dare lull into complete relaxation. No, she couldn't relax when both strangers were also wielding weapons, not unless she wanted to end up sliced and skewered.

Behel almost replied with listing off a short list of horrible things that the man might have wanted to do to him in this lofty place, but he bit his tongue and said nothing. As much as he wanted to stick his knife in whoever kidnapped him in his sleep, no, the man sounded genuine and honestly, he wasted so much energy when running down the halls trying to find an escape.

His hand abandoned the knife handle and fell to his side, but the sharp wrist-spines refused to lay back. One might be able to control their own actions, but biological reflexes were a different matter entirely...especially because even if he wasn't the one who brought him here, that didn't mean that he or the woman might have ill intentions. You couldn't be a man in his line of work without developing a little healthy paranoia.

"You say 'stuck here.' Might I presume that...no, do you know the nature of this place? Why was I taken here? And you? By what? Wherever this is, it's no place in the world that I know of."

He had many more questions rumbling around in his mind, much more than he could possibly ask.

((Skewered dragon meat sounds kind of tasty, heh.))

Wayward Victorian Doll
Within of of the inn's many rooms, a few dull thumps followed by a sudden crash and clatter indicated somebody breaking through wood. A small, lean body came tumbling from the remains of what once had been crate resting in the corner of the room. Brown eyes blinked twice, taking in the scene with calm curiosity, before the body they belonged to began to right itself from its sprawled position on the floor.

The girl - or rather, the thing in the shape of a girl - knelt upright and took in the sight of the broken crate, wondering where she was, and why she had arrived nailed shut inside of her little wooden home. The last thing she remembered was looking up from the mangled and bloody body of a human; a fairly common occurrence, so much so that she wouldn't have been able to say which body it had been or at what time she had seen it.

Drifting easily from her reverie, the doll looked down instead at herself. Her clothes had been torn away at some point, with the exception of her stockings (which she noted, with disappointment, were marred with several holes and tears) and a strong black corset which she had never seen before. Lightly touching the part of her torso that the article covered, she felt an alarming crackling of ceramic pieces underneath, and she came to the conclusion that it was probably best to leave it for the time being.

She stood, and a red ribbon fell from her shoulders. Crying out with pleasure, the doll picked up the ribbon and wrapped it lovingly around herself. She vaguely remembered the ribbon as being a gift, and a special one at that.

Satisfied that there was nothing left to see in the room, the doll staggered for a moment while she regained her balance, then skipped and leapt with inhuman speed passed the bed and furniture in her current room and out the door, whooshing by several similar doors down the hallway, down a set of stairs, passed more doors in another hallway, and down an even longer set of stairs. The doll was starting to wonder if maybe doors and hallways and stairs was all that this new place had to offer when she finally skidded to a stop at the bottom of a staircase, tumbling forward slightly into a vast room - a lobby, it might be called.

She stumbled around the place, taking in the sight of it and not realizing that she had eventually stumbled her way into another room, this one having a bar and several tables and chairs and other things, some of which she tripped over and crashed into. There were people in the room, and none of them human, so the doll ignored them and began to play with the broken pieces of the furniture that she had demolished, humming happily to herself as she did.

Reyoki watched as what appeared to be an animated doll thrashed through the downstairs area. What manner of thing was this?

She overheard the conversation of the two men also at the bar and began putting things together in her mind.

"So, it seems that none of us know neither where we truly are nor how we were brought here. Those two seem peaceful enough, but now... what of that living puppet? It did look at us, but now it seems to be ignoring us in favor of breaking things. Should I try to get its attention somehow? Hmm... it wouldn't do for it to attack me," she thought whilst observing the situation.

Finally, she turned to the two men and said, "I don't think any of us know where we are or how we got here. Have you looked out of the windows at the sky? There doesn't appear to be one. I'd say we've all been caught up in some sort of magic. It doesn't appear to be anything malicious, though, just annoying. Oh, and my name is Reyoki; I'm a water variety Ascent Acro. Who might you be?"

We're all mad here.
While the others talked, from behind the bar there issued a low growl, and a large, feral looking feline head peered around the corner, yellow eyes glancing from person to person and the fur beyond it's neck beginning to rise.

"Neko!"

The large cat stopped it's leering and looked towards the outside door where a blue-dresed woman stood, soaking wet as though she just emerged from the moat outside.

(yes, she calls it "cat." One of the water people from Deivai)

By that time, the doll had constructed a rather impressive and intricate tower from the shards and chunks of the table and two chairs she had already destroyed, and she was eyeing a third chair as though contemplating an additional floor to her tower, or perhaps an entire city surrounding it.

Her head snapped, however, toward the sound of growling coming from nearby. While the sound surely should have struck fear into anybody with even an ounce of survival instinct, the doll's eyes - which almost could have been human - lit up with excitement, she let out a short cry of joy, and within moments she had bounded across the room. She'd thrown her arms around the creature, rubbing its fur with her surprisingly soft porcelain fingers and giggling with as much enthusiasm as a small child.

Espy blinked in exasperation. "It doesn't....feel right." With his heightened senses, and a peculiar intuition, he felt that there was no way out of here. He took a few long strides to two huge oak-panel doors, heard a high-pitched squeal, and turned to see a young girl make a dash past him to hug a giant demonic cat.

"What in the-?" She started, then noticed another blue-cad woman following the feline.

Belial was up in a tree looking down at all of this and sipping from a well used cup full of tea. He calmly sat there as if nothing was amiss since it could be said he had lived a lifetime of nothing but nonsense. From out of his hat he pulled a piece of buttered toast, how it had gotten there noone knew but nontheless he nibbled at it thoughtfully as memories of treacle and of riddles passed by as if a river of water.

More like a train of thought really but rivers were much nicer things to compare it too. Plus the fact that it was half past forever, give or take five minutes and it wasn't as if he had a face to talk to besides his own. Talking to ones own face was rather difficult however, more so if ones mouth was full of tea and buttered toast.

He spent more time lounging about on the rough branch with his refreshments and watched the unfolding scene of no consequence. With a happy sigh he leaned back as his hat seemingly frowned down at him with a disparaging bend of its many patches and bends. It was almost a thing in itself that it was still on his head somehow.

The demonic cat suddenly froze in place, not at all certain of what to do with what might be the equivalent of a tree limb wrapping itself around it. It smelled no blood from the creature and felt no head. In a moment, there was an audible *poof* and a could of thick grey smoke. Emerging from the smoke was a twin tailed red and black cat, sneaking with all speed toward the woman in the doorway. The cat had a look on it's face that spoke the equivalent of "what the hell is that?!
