Default iPod to iTunes   #1
Is there any way to move music from an iPod to iTunes? I'm missing most of my CDs and other music save for what I have on my iPod and I had to re-install my iTunes so there's very little in it apart from what I purchased through the store.

A very hesitant yes...I'm not sure how. I haven't looked that up, but I know it's possible to move music from iPod to computer (except in a huge jumbled mess), so iPod to iTunes should be completely viable.

If I can get it to my computer I assume itunes could then gather it into itself, since it does computer searches. I'm just afraid to sync and then find my iPod gets wiped of everything but the pinner selection I have in my itunes right now.

EDIT: I just remembered in college when my roommate plugged her iPod into my computer to charge it and suddenly my iTunes was stuffed with music that wasn't mine. So, it must be possible.

There are third party apps that you can use to move the music off of it and onto a file so you legitimize it to your itunes.

Going off of Espy's thing - hidden Itunes folders...however, they are a jumbled mess. (Was how I recovered my songs when Ipad drowned.)

Perhaps try syncing your iPod with your iTunes? That's what I do with my iTunes and iPhone when I want them to have the same music.

I'm afraid that if I do that all it will sync are the songs already on my iTunes, so I will lose what's on my iPod already. It's not the end of the world, since I still have my CDs but I can't find them right now and the other music I will have to re-borrow from my sisters.

The One and Only
I had to do that maybe a year or two ago.
I just downloaded something from the internet but I can't remember what I used.
It might have been syncpod but it was for a mac.
I don't know if that's any help to you or not.

It might. I'll do some searching online. I'm sure other people have run into this.

I once moved my entire itunes to an external hard drive?

But if it isn't music you bought from iTunes and you sync it, your music will be deleted. If it's music you did buy from iTunes, it'll be fine.

If you can get it to the music folder, windows media can now read mp4 and burn cds from mp4s that play in normal CD players (I do remember when that wasn't possible.)

All I have right now is the music I bought. The rest I copied into my old iTunes from CD.

That's what I'm afraid of.

Ignoring iTunes for the moment, how do I get music off my iPod to put it onto my computer?

It's something about show hidden files D:

Because it's the only way I could get my iTunes folder to show music so I could move it (my laptop's hard drive was going bad)...the folder I believe for it. Since you said forget iTunes. But once you get the folder to show, it is basic moving it over.

Alright, so got some help from a friend of mine who works in tech support. No, there does not appear to be a way to get music from an iPod back into iTunes as it is now. I was able to do it using something called Media Widget. It seems to have done the trick though it's slow since the trial only lets you move 5 songs at a time and I had to keep opening the wizard until I got all my 300 songs moved over. (Not the biggest library in the world but big enough to be annoying)

I'm surprised Coda hasn't said something yet considering he's kind of like a technology dictionary. o3o I was actually rather looking forward to seeing what he would say on the situation so that I could learn something new. :P

I thought I HAD posted! XD I was going to mention Senuti, which exists for exactly this purpose. I just thought I'd already posted it, which is why I didn't post it again. ^^() But I suppose I just MEANT to post it, and never actually typed it up.

Thought that counts, right? ;)

I'll keep that Senuti in mind for whenever I have to do this again. Seems it's a common enough issue to merit multiple programs made to fix it.

I took my laptop into future shop to get it checked because it was overheating (my warranty was still valid so took it there). They cleaned it off back to factory settings and I then discovered I only make a partial back-up of my files. Saved the important stuff, but not the fun stuff. It's how I lost my Morrowind saves as well. *sniff*
