I agree. I think more than just generational, it's the age of our generation. We seem to be at the stage in life where we either choose to start living, or start dying. Apathy rears it's ugly head when given choices that we don't want to deal with yet. I myself struggle horrendously with responsibility, and I feel as though that's a big part of it.

We often want what's easiest, not best; and it seems in my life, easiest is often worst.

I agree though, your stable in who you are. That allows you to come from other perspectives. Otherwise you would be the person you write about, not just a reflection of you. I think your writing is a reflection of how stable you are though, and not necessarily the cause of that stability. However, I really have no idea how to be a solidified being; especially considering I'm not.
