Well, the character I have created is part of a spec ops team similar to the Anbu but yes that's fine

Well, genin is a rank when Anbu is an organization. So, genin will be the rank :P

Now, should they already have known each other prior to the academy? And how old are we making them?

gWell, the story would be more interesting in my experience if they start as enemies and somehow find a common goal, now as for age and what not, Leena which is my character is going to be a run away anbu, due to the fact she was ordered to attack her best friend and set her free instead.

Well, that still leaves the question of age though, considering Kakashi had been an anbu at a young age, same as Itachi.
