I can blame you because in my 20 years I have never thought that. And that rebuke is often used by my pastor. As someone with an over active imagination do you know what that will do to me?! It's funny...but still!
"Wisely and slow; they stumble that run fast" -Romeo and Juliet Basically he is commenting on how hot their passion is and how quickly they are moving will destroy their relationship in the end.

I have a few but I picked just one, from the Novel of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
"Quasimodo then lifted his eye to look upon the gypsy girl, whose body, suspended from the gibbet, he beheld quivering afar, under its white robes, in the last struggles of death; then again he dropped it upon the archdeacon, stretched a shapeless mass at the foot of the tower, and he said with a sob that heaved his deep breast to the bottom, 'Oh-all that I've ever loved!" Basically Quasimodo looking at Esme's lifeless body and Watching Frollo fall to his death. Drakath... I"m having an art contest, as some of you may know. First prize is a Dragon Lord And the other prizes are good too. Com and see! Art Contest, Chat, Draw and you may win!

"Don't hate yourself for hating me, mommy. Hate yourself for who you are.
--Scott Bakker, the Judging Eye, in which the empress Esmenet is speaking to her half-divine, monstrous 5-year-old. Possibly one of the coldest statements I have ever read. *shudders* Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion between supposed lovers. Between supposed brothers.

The line is coming from the child I take it? Not entirely sure with how you worded where it's coming from. I'm curious how the rest of the conversation went.

It was said 3-year-old to his mother, yes. I don't think there was any more to it, though, as it was her remembering during a lengthy passage detailing why she's miserable because none of her children are capable of love, all in different ways.

I could think of quite a few quotes that I love but the one that amuses me the most is:
"We're not a pair of mating whales!" For the life of me I can't remember the name of the book that's from (it's in storage TT_TT) but I'll never be able to forget that lmao. Basically one character is yelling that to the other who wants to "do things" in the bathtub. XD

It's a tie for me.
"We're all mad down here" from Alice in Wonderland and "Enter stranger but take heed, of what awaits the sin of greed, for those who take but do not earn, must pay dearly in their turn. If you seek beneath our floor, a treasure that was never yours, thief you have been warned, beware, of finding more than treasure there." from Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. Speaking of Harry Potter, I like the riddle for the poisons/potions from the first book.

That is a good one Espy, I've actually got a friend who is getting the Sphinx's riddle from the fourth book tattooed on his shoulder.

I can't remember if I've already done this quote but: "It was not art for art's sake but art for the sake of sanity." 2001: A Space Odyssey (possibly misquoted from my memory)
Ah I can still remember reading it my freshman year during Gym Class. If memory serves (this is where my memory gets hazy) those words were written by the author when the characters enter a space station and note all the art where the station design itself is utilitarian.

I can probably stop posting in this thread with this. Someone did me the favor of collecting all of Bakker's most awesome quotes on one page. :p

Pulling a quote I like from that page Suzerain:
“What if the choice isn’t between certainties, between this faith and that, but between faith and doubt? Between renouncing the mystery and embracing it?” ― R. Scott Bakker

"No man had ever climbed these cliffs, legends said, and none but the priests knew the secret entrance into the valley. Conan did not waste time looking for it. Steeps that balked others were not impossible for the man born in the rugged hills of Cimmeria."
Just watched the new Conan movie with my family. My brother, our Conan loremaster commented that besides Conan being born on the battlefield, the movie has absolutely nothing to do with anything in the Conan universe. He loaned me some of his copies of the original short stories from the 1920s and 30s so I decided to read them. I got that quote from the back of one of the books. I like the bit of character it shows. Cliffs or secret passage? Forget the secret passage, cliffs will do. ;)

"Stars, hide your fires
Let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand, yet let that be Which the eye fears, when it is done, to see." ...I -think- I got that right. Two more soliloquies to memorize! (Macbeth's "Is this a dagger which I see before me, the handle toward my hand" and Hamlet's "To be or not to be") STONEWALL WAS A RIOT
