You can set it back to the classic style, I'm pretty sure.

Linux Mint 9: Isadora, running on the Gnome desktop environment.
If you understand a word of that sentence then you are awesome in my book. xD

I used to use Windows, all the way back when Windows 95 was new when I was a little kid up until Vista. Then I discovered Linux. I Never went back, and now I'm looking forward to Mint 10 coming out next month.

Not only do I understand every word, I politely disagree with your choices. ;) (I guess Mint's not bad but GNOME just really cramps my style.)

Mint's alright. I started with Ubuntu and I've tried Fedora but didn't really like it that much in comparison. I've been curious about other distros though, I just feel at home with the Debian family. What are you using? :3

Ah, Gentoo. I didn't bother with that one when I first switched to Linux because the idea of compiling everything myself didn't sound too appealing. I liked the automation that Debian/Ubuntu/Linux Mint give with installing software.

Also, doesn't Gentoo use KDE as default? I'd give it a go if it wasn't for that. No offence meant, but just as you dislike Gnome, I also have a dislike for KDE. xD

Gentoo doesn't have defaults. :P The base system has enough software installed to compile packages and then you're on your own to choose what you want to add on top of that. This is one of the reasons I like it.

Also, just because you compile everything doesn't mean you're compiling everything BY HAND -- Gentoo has a package manager just like every other Linux distribution, except that instead of downloading precompiled binaries it downloads source code and builds it directly on your computer. This lets you change the compile settings (the "USE" flags) so that you don't have to drag in heavy optional dependencies if you don't want to. It's completely automated after you finish the initial setup.

And my Gentoo system actually uses Fluxbox. :P I don't use either GNOME or KDE as a desktop environment, and I can install either GNOME or KDE applications if there's not an environment-neutral alternative available.

So it lets you compile the source code through a package manager? That's really cool.

The main reason I'm attached to GNOME is because of the environment-based applications on it. I suppose I could like without nautilus and the like, but I have yet to find a single application, on any environment that can hold a torch to QuodLibet.

I'd be willing to give Gentoo a try though. Probably after Mint 10 comes out, which should be sometime this month, I'll also make a LiveCD of Gentoo.

Did someone say Gentoo? :o

Call me a geek, but I'm a Gentoo girl too. I really like how it doesn't force me into anything I don't want it to do.

It's over 9000!
I have win 7 and I have it because my computer came with it. I did want a mac, but it was too expensive when my husband and I went to pick me up a laptop to replace my horrible sucky dieing desktop.
