People can have their religion, whatever it is they believe in - hell they can believe in a geyser that spews genies that grant wishes and unicorn farts for all I care - but when they start picking and choosing technicalities of it, that's when I start getting pissed.
Okay homosexuality/transgenders/whatever is "unnatural" and you're "going to hell" if you are one, then so is everyone who isn't white, and you're going to hell if you wear two different types of fabric, you can stone your wife to death if she's raped, sell your daughters, enslave people, what have you. So what, the race stuff, the fabric stuff, the "selling your daughter for sheep" stuff, the sexist stuff, and etc isn't true but when it comes to gender/homosexuality, it is? Like is there some "true or false" footnote in every bible that goes "LOL JK I HAD YOU DIDN'T I? No but the gay stuff is all legit, srsly."
I have plenty of friends who believe in a god or gods or goddesses, but even the POPE agrees that changes have to be made.
It's not religion itself that hurts people, it's the people who use it as a tool to do so. It's perfectly doable to be religious and not a douchebag at the same time, I've seen it happen. =A=

yep, agreed. It's the people using their religion to bash people.
Which will then create a thought for those who are hurt that religious people are jerks.

oh, and also, I've read in comments somewhere about a guy, that he's an atheist but he does not accept homosexuals or the genderfluid/queer.

so basically, your faith or lack of it does not follow with you accepting people's orientation or lack thereof.

I know, I never said that religion was 100% the cause of it. We were just on that subject for a bit lol.
I've also run into asshole atheists ( surprise surprise ) as well. So I'm not a stranger to it.

oh lol, I was not arguing whatsoever. xD

but yeah... I guess it's just how people were raised... If the parents say, "eh meh ged, they're not to be accepted." Then the kids will learn not to accept
until of course, there are other factors that will make the child's opinion change.
xD

xD I know, I was just saying lol

It's how the media portrays anyone who is different as well. Any transgender or anyone who is gay on tv is flamboyant and over-ridiculous, used as comic relief or something to be pointed and laughed at. In every show, they make it out like it's something to be disgusted with, or used as the butt of a joke, like it's nothing serious and these people are just crazy.
That's why I get a little afraid whenever a show or franchise makes news saying they're making a character gay or transgendered; are they going to make them one big stereotype and worsen it for the real people? It makes us all look like circus freaks.

Or in the case of most movies, they make lesbian characters thinking it's helping the gay community, when it's really just fanservice. e___e

Bald and loving it!
@Meiz: Actually some constructs of gender are just plan hard for people to understand that have been raised with a certain ideal. For example, try explaining to some one what it means to be Asexual especially when they only think in terms of Gay or straight and have been raised as such. It is hard to phantom some one may want the company of both genders with out being sexually active.

After knowing so many gender queer people its a culture shock for the first time and hard to get used to. And really confusing if you don' t have the right person explaining it. I still some times call my friend Mitch by his original name when I see him.

Besides the new pope is okay with other mysterious genders xD its just well the tea party you have to watch out for.

As for the media, it will become more acceptable of transgender people as society does. That is all there is too it. Unless you get some one innovative in the business, they tend to build characters off of stereo types and generalizations and lets face it the first gay men in popular media happen to be people like "The Queer eye for the Straight Guy" When metro-sexual was not a word that people could find acceptable. If you look at it, its not purely boiled down to gender. I mean look at how any race is portrayed in the media for a span of 20-30 years. Asians were boiled down to smart ones, Indians and Hispanics were non existent and Blacks where just the idiot side kick.

...I think I started a thing.

Before I go back and read stuff -- One of the reasons why MM (referring to that one friend) doesn't want to call another of my friends "they": "I refuse to be attacked or insulted just because I acknowledge that someone is biologically female or biologically male."

My answer: "It's not the biological aspect -- if they perceive themselves to be male and make efforts to live their lives as a male, calling them female is the same as calling a person who does identify as their own sex, the opposite sex."

Also, he was asking me "How does one 'live the gender-neutral lifestyle'? As opposed to living as a female or living as a male?" That took me a while to explain.

And I feel a bit bad for copy-pasting from our chat, but I hope you all can see that he doesn't mean any offense.

"Maybe this segment of people thinks that I equate pronouns more with (apparently?) physically assigned sex than mentally identified gender. Or at least, that may actually be the case.
I still see you as a girl. A tomboyish one at that, but a girl nonetheless."

That last part did actually offend me, but...I know I won't be easily able to change his views on that, and I wasn't in the mood to argue that one out.

I hadn't meant to come off like I was attacking anyone or starting an argument. I just have strong views on it because this is how I've experienced things. I tried to mention I don't base this argument on religion, since I did say it's more about how society is, and I know plenty of religious people who are amazing and fair. And I also wasn't saying that particular person was a total douche, because obviously I don't know him or what he's said. It just sparked me to make a rant, when I shouldn't have.
I always end up spewing things I either know nothing about or I regret later, so I'm really sorry.

That seems like a complex situation, but it is hard to change some peoples views.

@Meiz: I know you have strong views XD I do, to, but I....eh...I can let other people do the enforcing because I'm too tired to do so, haha. So don't worry, I hardly think anyone in this thread feels offended.

Espy: I get stressed too easily and I have zero spine so I also don't enforce anything; instead, I stay away from people who don't accept this stuff normally. OTL
So I'm kind of a hypocrite when I say selective ignorance; I do the same thing to shut out those people so I can be less stressed lol

Everyone: Hey guys xD;
