Artemis could sense William getting suspicious. This was not good at all. She doubted he'd be able to make any specific connection, but the odd thoughts would always be lurking at the back of his mind. His next comment however, caught her even more off guard. "Uumm..thank you." She was frozen in place as he gently touched her, wishing he hadn't, since it left her only wanting more. After a brief moment she relaxed, "My mother always said that my eyes 'change to my mood' a lot of the time. Sometimes I feel she's right. You know?" A bit late for this statement/reaction, but she tried anyway.

If it hadn't been for the glowing he would have believed her statement. But he knew what he had seen, and her defending it, even as passively as she was, only served to confirm that it had indeed happened and was not normal. However, contrary to his thoughts he smiled and said, "Yeah, eyes are weird that way."

Artemis nodded a bit, finally looking back at him feeling it was safe to do so. "Strange things, they are. They almost have a mind of their own." She forced herself to yawn, then moved her elbows so they weren't propping her up and laid on her side. "What a crazy day I tell you." She was thankful he did not call her out on the occurrence..that and the food incident, and the problem before the movie. It seemed like the world was out to get her today, and reveal her secret to her best friend and force them apart. Damn the world then.

William took her yawn as a hint to let her sleep, assuming she was legitimately tired. "Definitely. I should let you sleep now." He slowly removed his arm from her waist, sad that he had to do so, and sat up. "It's been a stressful day for you, your probably bushed." He added, knowing the events of the day had to have had an effect on her. "You will sleep in here. No arguing about that. You're the guest."

She put a pout on her face, but didn't argue, "Very well. You know, I don't want to kick you out of your bed." She was a bit disheartened as he let go of her waist, but kept a slight smile on her face, "I don't think I could ask for a better friend." She rolled over with a frown, then closed her eyes, slowing her unnecessary breathing as if she were asleep.

William almost suggested that if she was so concerned about kicking him out of his bed that she could share it with him, but he kept his mouth shut and stood up. He wasn't surprised that she feel asleep so quickly, seeing as she had had a long day. Letting out a breath he didn't realize he was holding he leaned over and pressed his lips to her forehead. He held them there far to long for it to be a simple friendly gesture. His hand caressed the side of her face as he reluctantly pulled his lips away and rested his forehead on hers. "Goodnight, Artemis." He whispered in a barely audible voice.

Artemis was perfectly aware of William, but debated whether or not she was going to do anything about it. After a half second of her deciding she wouldn't she betrayed her decision. She opened her eyes a bit rather surprised that by this time he was still so close, but didn't say anything. She didn't really know what to say if anything. Thankfully for the darkness though, since even though her eyes were normally brown, with someone being this close, the red tint would be clearly visible.

Just as he was about to pull away William saw her eyes open. His breath caught. How much of that had she been aware of? He wasn't sure what to say, so he simply spoke. Hoping his words might alleviate some of the damage he had done, or at least not make it worse. "I thought you were asleep," He cleared his throat and moved his head slightly away, "That is, I didn't mean to wake you. Kissing someone on the forehead while they sleep is suppose to give you good dreams. I thought you might need it after today..." He trailed off, knowing he was rambling. He searched his mind for something to distract her from his actions with. What his mind choose to give him, however, was not what he had expected.

When she had first opened her eyes William had noticed something odd about them, though he had put it to the back of his mind due to his embarrassment. His eyes narrowed ever so slightly as he stared at her, suddenly afraid of his own suspicions. "Your eyes... were red Artemis." He said quietly. He wondered if she would realize the normal human eyes couldn't see in the dark. He hoped not. Because if she did that would confirm his fears that she was not human.

"Don't worry about it..It's.." Her brow furrowed as he mentioned her eyes again. They had always gave her away. She frowned, "Red? My eyes are brown last I knew..I mean they can't change like that." She should've just kept her eyes shut. Then this whole thing would've blown over.

William stared at her for a long moment before straightening up so there was a decent distance between them. "Yeah..." He said, though he didn't believe a word of it. Could she hear the mistrust in his voice? He hoped not. He didn't want not to trust her, but at the moment, how could he do otherwise? "Yeah, I must be seeing things. I need sleep, or something. Night." He said then turned and walked away, shutting the door behind him.

Artemis sat up when the door was shut, narrowing her eyes sightly. Mainly at herself. She ran her hands through her pale blonde hair with an irritated sigh almost a growl, "Dammit." She paced silently in the room, her hands on her hips. Now look what you did..you should've just 'gone to sleep' and let him be.

She threw her hands up quietly, very tempted to just punch the wall, but she very well couldn't do that. She went to the door, listening for William. She would only be gone maybe an hour. She just had to kill something to relieve her anger. She hurried over to the window, flipping the lock and quietly working to open it without alerting William..hopefully.

William left the room and plopped down on his couch, running his hands through his hair. Why was he such an idiot? Why did he have to kiss her forehead? Why did he have to start noticing all these things he did not want to notice? He squeezed his eyes shut. If it was true, and he loathed the very idea of it being true, then he would have to take action. He was a slayer after all. It was his job. It was his duty. But she was his best friend.

He removed his hands from his hair and let his head fall into them. He had never been the religious sort, but right now he hoped that there was a God and that he was a merciful one. Surely a merciful God would not allow the only person he cared for to be the one thing he despised. Surely that could not happen.

Exhaling a shaky breath, he stood. He needed to speak to her, to say something, anything, that would ease his mind. His feet felt as heavy as lead as he walked to the door. He hesitated at the handle. Why did he feel like opening the door would only make things worse? Shaking such thoughts from his head he turned the handle and let the door fall open.

When he saw her, trying to leave through his window, a feat that would not be easily managed by anyone human. He felt as if he had been punched in the gut. The only sound that escaped him was a single, emotionless word. "Artemis."

Artemis was just about to jump down when she heard William. Dammit. She froze stiffly turning back to face him. What should she do? She couldn't tell him the truth, oh no. That was a bad idea..but..she couldn't lie to him. She hated lying to him. She just..cared for him too much. "Will..I.." She stopped, looking down, not sure what to say. She bit her lip, glancing back outside. Should she just jump and leave? Then just board the first flight she could to London? She knew she should do that, but she couldn't..just just remained there, still as a statue.

William swallowed loudly, unsure of what to do. Where had she been going? To feed? To take some precious human life? He nearly shuddered at the thought. Not Artemis. Not his Artemis. He couldn't jump to conclusions. He had reasons believe she was a vampire, but still he was not certain. He needed to be certain.

"Art..." He closed his eyes for a moment, took a deep breath and then stared into her eyes with as much confidence as he could. He did not ask about what she had been trying to do. He simply said, "Come here." It wasn't a command, not really. It was an option. Would she face? Would she try to explain or defend herself? Or would she leave?

Artemis turned, her mouth open as if she was going to say something, but she couldn't. She wanted to move, but she simply couldn't. She tightened her grip on the window frame, loud cracks ripped through the silence as she broke the wood, Dammit.. With a heavy sigh, she moved back into the room as she placed her hands back on her hips.

She turned to face Will, her expression cold and serious. She just watched him with her dark red-brown eyes, curious to what he will do. He was, after all, just a human. After another few seconds she stepped over, keeping a good 3 feet away.

The sound of breaking wood made him wince. There was his proof. Only a vampire had that kind of strength. He knew that, but he still wanted the chance to prove himself wrong. He wanted to see her teeth. To be sure that she had fangs. To be sure there wasn't some other explanation.

After a long moment he finally spoke. "You're not human Artemis." He said in a matter-o-fact tone, similar to the one he'd used when he'd said she was beautiful. "And I'm pretty sure I know what you are, but I... need proof." He swallowed loudly. "Show me. You're... teeth."
