No, transsexual is the right term, whether pre-op, post-op, or non-op. "Transgendered" is mostly synonymous; the word was chosen to take the idea of "sex" out of it since it's perfectly possible (and not funny) to be a lesbian in a male body -- sexual orientation has nothing to do with it.
