It happened in just a moment; one second Shaun was listening intently for any sort of crazed animal, and the next he was pressed up against a tree by the man he had seen earlier. A small grunt escaped his mouth as his back hit the rough bark of the tree.
His eyes darted to the rifle that had been snatched out of his hands so quickly that he hadn't had time to react.

He glared into the other man's eyes, waiting for his opportunity to counter. He was surprised when he let him go and kicked his gun back over to him. His green-gray eyes automatically glanced down at it, but he didn't move to retrieve it. He figured he might as well listen to this man, whatever he had to say. In any case, he could draw the silver pistols from their holsters in the fraction of a second if the need arose. His eyes stayed guarded as he watched the man's movements carefully, waiting for any sign of more hostile behavior.

The way he was reacting was satisfactory. Overly so and it made Mavek grin. He crossed his arms over his chest and shifted his weight to one leg as he eyed this man, trying to get a feel for how he worked. He knew this man had a lot more to him than it seemed... And he would like to know what because he was quiet the character, honestly... It made Mavek want to steal this man from the rest of society as it was. He huffed that feeling out of his system though as he turned his attention back to his face.

"Tell me. What's your name, boy?" he asked, not recalling it being said yet. He figured that was a good way to start the conversation... Seeing as how he had some plans in the works in his mind. He was tapping his foot lightly as he waited for a reply, wanting to know more about this man before he continued with his plans. He figured that would be simple enough. It didn't hurt for one to be informed of another's name.

His name? This man was a strange one.
Shaun eyed him warily still, just waiting for him to make a move to attack him.
"It's Shaun. Grieves," he said to the other man, his voice laced with suspicion. He wasn't even sure why he was complying, it would be easy to whip out both his pistols and shoot this guy full of lead. Case closed. He could move on. But there was no way he could make himself do it.
It was one of his biggest rules to not kill someone if they weren't of any immediate harm to him. In these times, everyone could seem like a threat, so he shouldn't go around shooting people who caused him to be careful.

"Now, how about yours?" he continued. It wasn't right to ask for a name if you didn't give your own. He kept his arms hung loosely at his sides, his fingers twitching.
The stench of the half-eaten corpse still filled his nostrils, but he only now seemed to remember it was there. His nose scrunched up again, an involuntary reflex of his body.

"Hmm... Shaun, huh?" Mavek asked as he placed one of his hands on his chin, resting his pointer finger on it. He looked down as he sounded the name out in his head, adding the Grieves part. It had a slightly sultry ring to it... He rather liked it, actually and he approved of it by the time he was done dissecting it. He then looked back up at him and removed his hand from his face, placing it back down on his opposing arm to lay flat as he kept his arms crossed over his chest.

When he was asked his own name, he laughed. He shifted his weight again, to the opposing leg. "My name is Mavek. Umawli, if you must know," he said with a slight nod of his head. As he continued to eye him, he was trying to figure out in his head if this was the one that would be able to help him achieve his goal.. His goal of slight revenge, but mainly to prevent it from happening again.

The man took a while to reply with his own name. Mavek. It was definitely a strange name, but he was strange himself, so he figured it fit.
When Mavek looked back to him Shaun felt yet another shiver run down his spine. He didn't like the way his eyes ran over him. It disturbed him and he wished he could just go back to regroup with the soldiers and go collect his payment for the job after that.
It was time for him to move onto another place, find another job. He just stood there, not saying anything, as he waited for Mavek to make his move. Shaun was fine if he would let him pass or if he forced him to attack, he just was tired of standing around, the smell of this haggard town filling his head.

"So all you do with your life is kill, is that right?" he asked the man after he was done eying him for the third time now. He then brought his bright green eyes back up to Shaun's face. He allowed a sly grin to dance over his lips as he asked the question. He made it obvious that killing didn't bother him at all. He then uncrossed his arms and allowed them to drop back down to his side.
"I don't like in that god forsaken town either... I do hope you realize this," he added with a scowl. He wouldn't stay there even if someone found a way to kill him there. He would reanimate his corpse and force it to move at least to the woods. That place was dreadful.

Shaun flinched at the question. That was what he did, but he didn't like hearing it. He hated murderers and people who killed others with a passion, but that included himself. He knew he was a worthless example of a human being, but he did what he had to to live. Sometimes he wished he could just give himself over to the raiders or crazed people who lived in the world these days. Every time he truly considered it human survival instincts kicked in and he wouldn't allow himself to die. He would realize that it was pointless for him to die now. More people would die even if he wasn't in the world.

His brow creased as he glared Mavek.
"What is it that you want? I'm not looking to have a fun little chat with some moron stalker," he growled. He had had enough of this guy. It was about time for this to end, as Shaun was still getting the creeps from this man.

"I'll have you know that I'm no moron, boy," Mavek said as he took a stern step forward. "Stalker I may be, but there's nothing wrong with that in this day and age. You do what you have to do to get by and survive..." He then continued to glare forward at this man, knowing it hurt him to admit to himself for even a moment that his job was to kill people on a regular basis... Sometimes even more than one person on a regular basis. That was perfect... Just perfect... Moving one of his long fingers up, he scratched the back of his neck as he lost himself in thought once more. He scrunched his face up as he looked down at the ground. He wasn't sure if he even wanted anything to do with this man. He was so damn disrespectful... "I have a proposition for you though, unless your pathetic life is too busy to hear it."

His eyes rolled at what Mavek said, it sounded just a bit ridiculous.
"Fine. Let me hear it, will it get this whole conversation over with?" he said, not trying to hide his annoyance one bit. He was usually a really nice guy, trying to watch what he said and how he said it, but he was tired of this guy.

That made him snort out a little laughter as he looked at this guy. "If you were to accept this proposition then you would have a lot more of me to deal with, you know," Mavek said and shook his head. He just stared at the man, his expression that of an extremely amused person. "I need you to kill something for me." He said something instead of someone because he didn't consider this thing a person... It was a demon and it was pretty ruthless. It wasn't very easy to kill though, especially for a demon. For some reason, demons could barely touch it.

Shaun's eyes widened and he took a small step back, surprised by where this talk had turned.
A new job? he thought to himself.
"What? You're hiring me?" he asked the man, feeling his voice change into a business one.
"I have to ask, what kind of payment are we talking about? If I have to spend more time with you then it better be good," he told Mavek.
Shaun didn't really care about having a lot of money, but he knew that having a lot of it only helped him when he needed it. Money had actually saved him several times when dealing with characters who would try to back stab you. If you gave them enough cash, they would leave you alone. He could probably handle any of those people, but he felt that the bullets weren't worth the trouble.

Reaching into his pocket, he grabbed a handful of cash and thumbed through it. "I do believe that this will be a sufficient amount... If I say so myself," he said as he put about half of it back in his pocket. He was glad he had a habit of taking the cash that were on the people he would eat most of the time. He handed the man some hundred dollar bills, figuring it would suffice if he needed anything... Mavek didn't have much need for these things anyway. He didn't like anywhere and he also didn't need to buy food... There was plenty of food for him lying around. He only needed money to buy clothing... And he rarely messed up his clothing, as long as his spikes on his arms didn't tear it up too terribly badly.

Taking the crumpled bills, Shaun raised his eyebrow. This was a bit unorthodox, that was for sure.
He counted the money and it came out to be just a few hundred dollars.
"You've got to be kidding right? This isn't even half of what I would take for an easy job," he told him, becoming even more annoyed.
"If you're just gonna waste my time then I think I'll be going," he said, now not taking this Mavek person seriously at all.

He picked up his rifle and put it back onto his back. He straightened back up and looked at the other man one more time. Then he shook his head and started to walk off, away from this entire scene, completely having forgotten about the torn apart carcass and the surprise attack that Mavek had launched on him. This guy must have been crazy or something, best to get away promptly.

Looking back in his pocket, Mavek laughed and shook his head. "It would appear I didn't even pull out all of the money from my pocket. Here," he said and pulled out about eight more bills just to make it perhaps worth his while. "And I am only giving you half of what you would normally get. You don't think I would give you the entire payment before you complete the job do you?" He took a few steps forward, following the man regardless of what his intentions were. He'd honestly thought he'd handed him more than that though, not paying much attention to how much money he'd handed over. He didn't know what to value money anymore anyway though. He never needed it, so it made perfect sense that he would have come up short with the first attempt. He grabbed Shaun's hand and slapped the other eight bills into the man's hand. "There's more where this came from, you know?" And he wasn't lying.

He looked down at the money in his hand. He was about to refuse again but... then again, he wasn't sure where he was going to go for another job. Sometimes he would go over a month without getting one. As a mercenary, you never knew when your next payment was coming, if you'd make it to the next one.
He sighed heavily then turned back to face Mavek.
"Fine. What are you suggesting? I'm bound to take whatever sort of job you have, so don't be afraid to tell me the whole story," he told him, his face back to its blank, neutral stare.

"Before I start... I'm going to explain that there's more money that that in your hand coming if you complete this job," Mavek stated as he pushed some of his hair from his face. He then crossed his arms over his chest and sighed, preparing himself to just tell the basics and not go into much detail. He didn't want anyone to know what had happened to him anyway, so it made perfect sense. He just shrugged it off and then closed his eyes for a moment. "There's a demon I need you to kill. He's killed many, many humans and his reign of terror needs to come to an end. If you accept this job then you will be dramatically changing many lives, including my own." He then looked back up at the man, wondering if he would just think he was even more insane than he did before.
