even though it's stressful, we're moving 5-1/2 hours away across the state to a place i've never lived - heck, i've lived my entire 52 years in the same county in southeastern PA - yeah, i'm looking forward to it. XD

it's huge.

nope, we can bring our jobs with us. it's a cost of living thing - we're currently in one of the most expensive counties in PA. it seems like forever we've been trying to figure out where to cut costs so we don't have to tetris the checkbook, or run out of paychecks before the end of the month. it's gotten crazier in the last few years, it seems. housing is much less out near Pittsburgh.... the house we're currently vested in (near Pgh) costs MUCH LESS than the original buying price of the current house (the one we're selling)

Trystan, Well, I'm glad over all it's going to be a change for the better. I get that too, the cost of living and just everything right now is ridiculous. The housing market is insane right now too. You can find some good deals but they can go super quick. There's a heck of difference in areas around here too. You could take like our house and just move it to the town over and it's be about 25-30% less for the same footage, acreage, bedrooms and so on. It's just crazy. I mean 'Location, location, location' but when we were looking for houses I got a taste of what that really meant and it just blew my mind. Along with really looking at different things like over all prices and sales tax prices and city and county taxes. The more you go down that rabbit hole the more it's like wtf.

I'm glad you were able to find a way to cut costs though and put yourselves in a better financial position!

Dalhanahue - yes, the housing market is very WTF. and, because being able to cut costs... we might actually be able to actually save money for the first time since.... ever. :D

That's wonderful and truly a blessing. I lived for years paycheck-to-paycheck and the feeling of having a little cushion and even being able to save for a change is just such a security and weight lifted once you're able to get that type of position.

Oh hey, I used to be out in pgh, and my partner still is. Long as you're not too close to the campuses, housing should be... not terrible?

the one house we have an interest and escrow in is out in Rochester, PA, about 45 minutes away from Pitt. we're entertaining the possibility of needing to look at other houses, one of which is in West Mifflin, about 30 minutes from Pitt.

(our younger daughter goes to Pitt (it's her senior year), and she is NOT happy about our moving intentions. XD )
